11 game road trip starts tonight in L.A. for the Bravos.

I'm a bit worried as this would be a perfect time for the Phillies to snap out of it.

Selig has ruled, and will not change the call.

I know, try to contain yourself from the shock.

After reading some things today, I don't mind that the call isn't changed. It would open the floodgates for more "exceptions" to be made on bad calls. However, this shouldn't be the end of it -- start a panel today to create options for a replay/challenge system in MLB so this doesn't happen again.

Incidentally, Galarraga got a new car from Chevy/the Tigers anyway.

Pretty much my thoughts. Can't change this call, but hopefully it gets the ball moving on some kind of review system.

Also Glarraga will be remembered forever as the guy who pitched a perfect game that wasn't, I'm sure there will be an entry in the hall of fame about it just like everything else, so it's almost benefited him in the end. Also he showed a great amount of class in how he handled it.

I wonder what Dallas Braden would have done? "THEY DONT TAKE KINDLY TO MISSED CALLS IN THE 209!"?

Why does it have to open floodgates? It's not black and white (and baseball sure as hell isn't a "black and white" sport, the sport is completely unfair by design). Just because you change one doesn't mean you have to change them all. I don't get that mindset at all.

Change the call and then on to the next one.

SVP had one of the best opening salvos I've heard in a very long time. I'll paraphrase.

"When Gallarraga throws a perfect game, he goes into the record books and everyone knows his name. Joyce goes out to his job everyday and everyone expects him to have a perfect game. Perfection is his baseline. When he has a perfect game, noone remembers him, noone knows his name."

Yeah, pretty much. You'd think umpires would know that when they first sign up for the job. I've never seen anyone tell an umpire what a great game he's had, it's a thankless job by default.

Also Griffey retiring has made me want to play his SNES game again. Loved that shit.

That's a problem Cowherd brought up today. There are less and less new umpires coming up.

I think the umpiring system as a whole could use some checks and balances. This whole thing could have been prevented if the other umps met with Joyce behind the bag and discussed the call.

I absolutely cannot stand the majority of the umpires today that seem to almost instigate an argument. What the fuck happened to the classy umps that used to walk away from arguments? Far too many new/young umps that don't understand that there's a lot of emotions involved and not every act is showing them up.

I have to give Galarraga credit for the way he reacted, which completely shocked me.

If it were me, i would have pulled a George Brett.

I do not watch baseball but I am a huge fan of sports in general and cannot live without my Sportscenter and I found this story quite interesting. This went from being one of the worst sports incidents of the year to almost one of the best - except the dumbass comissioner Bud Selig won't let it be as heartfelt as it could be. He should give Galaragga the perfect game, if its ANY play but the final out, you can wonder, "what if?" but for it to be the final play of the game, Selig needs to give the perfect game to him.

Daniel Murphy of the Mets is done for the season. Dude just can't catch a break. Start of the season he loses his starting job because he sprains his knee. Accepts his future as a utility player only to play his second game at second base and be taken out by a fucking dirty slide by a player in the nationals farm system. That shit is terrible. He tore the MCL on the same knee that was sprained earlier. Such a shame.

In the spirit of never shutting his mouth, Curt Schilling would tell umps if he thought they had a good game if he knew he just pitched his last inning of a given game. Granted, he also made sure to let them know when he thought they were terrible, but just sayin'

Some pitchers tip their cap or give a nod to an umpire.
