Well Strasburg was dominate, but now we'll see if he can repeat with major league advanced scouts seeing him. Good to see him succeed. On that note Pelfrey is also fucking the man right now. Shame he couldn't pick up the complete game win.

Lol. Another Gallardo start, another complete lack of run support. Pitches 7 innings of shutout ball, bullpen immediately breaks the 0-0 tie in the 8th, but Corey motherfucking Hart hits his NL-leading 15th homer and Casey McGehee comes through with a clutch 2-outs, bottom of the 9th 2-rbi single to win.

    Suck on it, Cubbies.

Francisco is lucky he got that huge go-ahead 2 RBI single or I'd probably be coming on here to tear him a new one and bitch about how he tries to make flashy plays instead of the right play.

Well, I was in first place for a day. And Aki storms back and puts me back in my place.

I'm really kind of disappointed that Felix Hernandez is turning out to be about the sixth best starter on my staff. I can't imagine that will last, but we're about 40% of the way through the season...

Typically the starters on my staff were supposed to be low 3 or high 2 starters in terms of era. Haren and Lincecum have been awful. Price and Pelfrey have been amazing. If I didn't need the Strikeouts I'd bench Weaver more often though I gave him a shot tonight against the As of all the clubs and he gives up 3 runs gdi. If my Era would go down I'd be up there. I'm middle of the pack in hitting finally.

Yeah because until yesterday, nobody knew what kind of stuff he had. You don't need a scouting report to hit him, you need a fucking tennis racket.

His next start is against Cleveland, and the following start should be against the White Sox, then the next one against the Orioles. Holy shit, lol.

Damn, I thought Strasburg was done after 6 last night so I left the house to do other things. And then he came back and struck out the side yet again. Amazing debut.

I hope he can stay healthy and not go the way of Mark Prior.

It's really a shame the guy is going to be throwing against a bunch of shitty teams. I want to see him face like, the Phillies and the Cardinals... Strasburg v Pujols would be hella fun to watch.

It's just a quirk in the Nats schedule. We had a gnarly first couple of months, and now we're playing something like 60 straight games against teams who failed to make the playoffs last season. Wild card run? Sure y not.

Strasburg was simply filthy...you should not be able to throw a 2-seamer that hard. His stuff was just flat out scary.

I think what impressed me most was his calmness and attitude on the mound. To have that much control to be able to channel all the adrenaline and pressure and still be able to perform like that is insane. He had a Rivera-esque coolness after he struck out the side in the 7th, it made it seem like it was just another day at the office for him.

Like I said though, I'd like to see him pitch against a good team before we start crowning the guy like Costas was doing last night lol

It'll be interesting to see how teams attack him. If he's in the zone as much as he was last night there's not much you can do, but I'm sure teams will work on getting his pitch count up.

Most major league players don't give a shit about a guy who has never thrown a pitch in the big leagues before. They had scouting reports of how he throws to aa and aaa hitters. It was a struggling pirates team, and he got burned by a mistake. He's far from perfect. Like ceph said, it's easy to make predictions about his success now, but until he faces a team who's hitters are red hot or and overall more dangerous and patient lineup with advanced scouting reports I think everyone needs to calm down. He's going to be a great pitcher no doubt, as he's got poise and control of himself on the mound and doesn't get rattled easy. Just don't anoint him the god of baseball yet.

One example of this is Hisanori Takahashi. Here is a guy who made his first two starts against the Phils and the Yanks and absolutely owned them. He next start against the padres he gets smashed because hitters figured out not to chase his change up. Thanks to scouting reports and video.

The control really didn't come later. Maybe 3rd inning he was really "on" with his pitches. He was pretty all over the map the first two. After that though, he was just doing whatever the hell he wanted. The scary part was, like you said, it was another day at the office--he knew he could do it.

If he does end up wild in a start though, hitters have to let him bury himself with walks. However, it doesn't seem like he's afraid at all pitching to contact even if he does fall way behind. I don't see him giving away many free passes with his approach.

If you are talking about the HR he gave up, I'd argue that wasn't even a mistake. He had the hitter out in front on the change and the pitch was diving below the knees. It might have been a little more center-cut than he would've liked, but that thing was just poked over the fence. Just have to tip your hat to that and realize that's the difference between the Bigs and AAA.
