With some Steve Carlton thrown in for good measure. After all, he struck out 14 batters, that's on a record pace.

If he keeps this up.. he could easily strike out 300 by time he hits the 150 inning pitched mark.

Hard to fault the Phillies offense when Josh Johnson looked the way he did last night. It's not like Adam Eaton 4 hit them.

Flyers gave it a good run, but its hard to beat a team as good as the Blackhawks with two injured goaltenders. I caught the last 2 innings of the Halladay perfecto, and watched a couple games since then, so I did cheat a bit on my promise not to watch baseball till the Cup finals were over.

Jayson Werth needs to cut down his swing. A lot. He can't hit a fastball right now because his swing is too slow, and everybody but the Phillies knows it.

Can we get Halladay a little run support please, is that too much to ask? He's had I think 7-8 runs in his last 5 starts, and thats just pathetic.

Chase Utley is hurt. He has to be, its the only way I can explain how bad he's looked at the plate.

I love the fact that Howard has been a much better contact hitter, but he needs to stop hitting singles and start hitting bombs. Oh and a walk once in a while would be nice.

Raul Ibanez just needs to retire. He can't field and one good game at the plate a month ain't cutting it. I'm actually missing Pat Burrell right now.

On the positive side, our pitching has improved greatly and Brad Lidge is quietly having a good season so far. His fastball is finally back and his slider has the same bite it did in 2008. As long as he can throw strikes he'll be fine.

Interleague is back and it couldn't have come at a worse time. Hopefully we won't get pounded like we do every other year.

The only guy feeling worse than Halladay in terms of run support is Kawakami. Dude gets like 2 runs a game on average all year. Shit's crazy.

Ibanez hasn't had a good stretch since the first half of the year last year. Miraculously, he started to suck after getting accused of steroids/HGH in that big 'everyone beat up on the blogger' scandal. Not sayin anything.. I'm just sayin'.

Utley has to be hurt. I agree. Dude's looked terrible, and seeing his average this low is very, very weird.

Werth isn't doing a good job to earn himself a new contract somewhere else.

Werth is like 4 for his last 43. Utley and Werth have just looked awful. It's concerning in a big way. The team routinely slumps some this time of year, but they have looked so lifeless. Baseball just isn't fun when the offense looks so indifferent. I excuse the Josh Johnson game, but otherwise they need to get back to putting runs on the board. Plus they suck interleague. Red Sox are having their way with them tonight.

To be fair on Halladay's run support, he's normally facing a team's #1. I.e. his last two starts were against JJ, possibly the best SP in the NL not named Halladay (#1 and #2 in FIP atm). Not many runs are gonna come against pitching like that.

how about that for conversation starter, your top 5 SP in the NL

    1) Halladay
    2) Lincecum
    3) JJ
    4) Ubaldo
    5) Wainwright

    Would be mine

    Ubaldo 4..? Wat.

If we're going this year, right now, I'd go:
    1) Ubaldo
    2) Halladay
    3) JJ
    4) Lincecum
    5) Wainright/Carpenter (pretty much interchangable)

I'm talking skill level. I'd say JJ and Ubaldo are basically even skill level wise. JJ has better control and gets more strike outs but Ubaldo gets more ground balls and less XBH. Certainly Ubaldo has an awesome ERA and has pitched great so far but it's obviously not sustainable, this isn't Pedro Martinez here.

How do you know? Are you a seer? How do you know the JJ you're seeing is the real JJ? I seem to remember last year when he struggled sometimes to get through 5-6 innings due to pitch count and control, though I could be wrong.

Still, if we're going right now, my rankings stand. If not, Halladay/Lincecum are still 1/2 with Ubaldo/JJ being interchangable.

Jamie Moyer's ERA jumped 1.05 runs tonight. I just love Interleague play.

Because he's been doing this for three years running

And last year, Ubaldo and JJ had the same amount of starts, but Ubaldo threw 200 more pitches while only throwing 9 more innings. He was more efficent and had better control than Ubaldo last year, too. And the year before that.

And what do you mean "right now" v.s. "not right now"? What is "not right now"? Skill is skill.

Hrm. Well I went to mlb.com and what not to check stats and what do you know. Gah, I must be thinking of another Marlins pitcher that had control issues at a time, or had problems getting deep in games. Actually.. no, I'm thinking of JJ. I'm not comparing last year's JJ to last year's Ubaldo. I guess it wasn't fair of me anyway.

Anyway, I guess both Ubaldo and JJ have made huge strides to last much longer in games, which has been great. While I don't think Jimenez can obviously keep his sub 1 ERA going.. I don't think sub 2 is out of the question either. I'd still put him above Josh Johnson, though I always draft JJ anyway in fantasy drafts, Haha.

So yeah, sorry for being wrong.

    and fuck you, Headspace :3

Bases loaded and no outs...Phillies get nothing out of it. I know the game is out of hand and everything, but COME ON.

Yeah I think you were thinking of Nolasco. I think we more or less agree: Ubaldo has pitched better this year, but their "skill" is basically the same.

And yeah, it's good to finally score some runs. Still waiting for Stanton's first bomb though! >
