I'm just saying, I wouldn't hope for Chipper to retire. Take a limited role, sure. But I'd still want him around, let him rest for awhile and get healthy, and hope he can help down the stretch as long as Atlanta stays in contention.

I don't know why he wasn't the DH. I guess both Delmon and Kubel have been hitting pretty well lately, so maybe he wanted to keep both of them going. I wish Cuddyer would get time at 2B while Hudson is out so we could have a better lineup in.

I would have given Kubel a blow against Ubaldomania if it were me, they must have wanted to keep Mauer fresh or something.

As far as chipper goes, I think he might accept a more limited roll if they paid him less. But I can't see the guy just walking away from 28m guaranteed. He might not be selfish but 28m would last him the rest of his life if managed right. He could always restructure his deal to defer money till after he retires, which I think he might do if they wanted to keep him around. He can still be clutch when right.

That said, I'm kind of excited to see how the mets play in Yankee stadium tomorrow after last years debacle over castillo. offense is finally clicking too.

Also why does Morneau suck lately.

About the offense absolutely you're right lol, I mean before going on the road trip there were signs pointing up that they were finally getting it together, tonight against Westbrook they hung a 3 spot and he's a pretty good pitcher. So I'm glad.

The pitching has been spotty but every starter goes deep into games and that's whats letting us win. Santana has been really bad lately, really bad control, but he's gone deep into games and gets competitive. Pelfrey on the other hand, takes the hill and I have faith that we'll win. The best surprise this team got, and needed was Pelfrey to turn the corner. Niese is also coming around and Dickey, I mean what can you say he's just been terrific. Dickey is having the best season of his life while guys like Haren are having the worst starts of their careers. So with what the Mets are getting, I'm very thankful for.

Bravos take 2/3 from the Rays. That was nice. Just hope they keep that intensity up against the Royals.

Manny returns to Fenway the night after the Celtics blow the 7th game of the Finals. That's going to be 37k+ that are already more upset than usual. This is going to be spectacular.

Yeah... he is slugging .366, and of course the .234 BA. Bad defense doesn't help either. I love Chipper, but you guys definitely haven't been watching him hit.

What's happening to the phillies? They are 3rd in the division and continue to fall behind the leading teams. With the best pitches in the league, one would think this should be a phenomenal regular season followed by a run-away playoff.

They're place in the division(3.5 GB with 3 less games played) isn't as bothersome as the way they got to 3rd place and the way they were playing. In 3 of their last 4 games it looks like they are starting to get back on track.

Their pitching has been fantastic. Their offense (and to a lesser extent defense) went into a nearly 30 game slump. Had they been playing even mediocre baseball they would still be just fine, but that 8-17 run really put them into a hole.

The Braves record is also misleading since they have one of the better home records in the Majors, and have played quite a few less home games than most other teams. Maybe they'll get on a nice run in a home stand and stretch things out.

As far as Chipper.. yeah, sure. He's getting on base, but he's not behaving like the proto-typical #3 hitter. He needs to drive in more runs, but eh. I figure as long as he does get on base and can score.. it'll be okay.
