Yeah. He should have given A-Rod more credit during that 2006 postseason where.. didn't he bat 7th or 8th at one point? Fuck that manager. Shit manager is shit. Bobby Cox is a shit manager too. How do you win 14 division titles in a row and one World Series? Fuck that guy.

It was... his choice... to bat him 8th. Oh yeah, and he didn't tell him until the lineup card was posted so he would have no idea he was about to get blitzkrieged by the media before he ever took a step on the field. Player's manager!!

Interestingly enough, I've heard more bitching and moaning about Girardi's bullpen management than I ever remember hearing when Torre was running things, though who knows. Maybe I paid less attention then.

The reality is Joe Torre was a mediocre manager in every way at every stop he made prior to going to the Yankees. He managed to land on a Yankee team that had a ton of talent that any manager in baseball could have done the same thing with and it managed to elevate him to elite status in baseball. He left them and he's right back to where he was before them.

Managing a team that's near the tops in the West even with a mediocre pitching staff?

When the situation demanded a good strategic decision (2003, 2004, 2006, 2007) he was badly out-managed. His bullpen management was atrocious (ask Scott Proctor) and he always favored certain players even when better options were available. (Hi kenny lofton).
I'm sorry, but the whole "players won it for him" is bullshit. If we were talking about Casey Stengel then yeah maybe; Mantle, Berra and Ford played enormous parts in the Yankees' dominance in the 50's. But I don't see how you can blame Torre for '04, when Mo was the one who blew those saves.

Again, you can't laud the players' talent and credit them with all the success, then blame all the failures on Torre. Just because he didn't continue his 1998 season success all the way through '07 doesn't mean he wasn't a huge cornerstone of the franchise.

You acknowledging he was an important part of Yankees' history and success is different from "man, I wish the media would quit talking about Torre what with the Dodgers/Yankees series happening right now." That's sporting news. Players that got traded to other teams and who are now facing those old teams get written about, and likewise with managers who are managing a new team, especially with a guy like Torre.

You said you didn't see him as a hero, and that he was "strategically awful." Nothing about still appreciating him until I pointed out that no one seems to have any appreciation for him.

This. Damaso Marte and Chan Ho-out-of-the-Park don't exactly get Yankees fans on their feet when they come out of the pen.

If by near the top you mean fourth place behind teams like the Padres and Giants then yes.

What does this have to do with anything?

And whatever dude, anything I say you're going to bring up another excuse. I can go into detail on Joe's decisions if you really want but I have a feeling you just want to pick on "ungrateful" Yankee fans. I don't thinly he deserves all the credit he gets, you do. Good for you. Arguing with you over this clearly isn't going to go anywhere.

Johan Santana is tipping his pitches. Fucking great. The mets have no long man because they are carrying 3 catchers and the twins hung of a 4 spot in the first. Santana should not be pitching until they figure out what he is doing to tip his pitches. Third start in a fucking row god damnit.

He's probably thinking about Jamie Moyer and Shane Victorino and the rest of the Phillies and having nightmares on a daily basis.

After checking the score, it's not nearly as bloody as what the Phillies did to Santana.

Actually, they have an excellent pitching staff, and if they had a passable outfield defense this would be obvious. The Dodgers' only problem is their entire payroll is invested in decent-to-good players, which is a lousy way to accumulate talent.

3rd place actually, behind an overachieving amazing pitching staff padre's team and a giants team that is better then the record shows. It's not like they are last 15 games out like other teams. Seriously no pleasing everyone it seems.

Have you seen the score difference as well? What is it.. +3? +7? Something of the sorts. That means that at times, they don't get the pitching (or hitting obviously) and yet.. they are close to the top. I'd say that's doing an okay job.
