Uh oh, Steinbrenner had what NY media called a 'massive' heart attack this morning.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has suffered a massive heart attack.

Steinbrenner was rushed to St. Joseph's hospital in Tampa, Florida, and his condition is not known.

Steinbrenner turned 80 on July 4th.

During Steinbrenner's ownership since 1973, the longest in club history, the Yankees have earned 11 pennants and 7 World Series titles.

We can hate all you want, but as a Royals fan, I'd kill to have a 'win at any cost' owner. You have to give him props because no matter what you think of his tactics or whatever, you cant say that he didnt at least put effort into putting a winning product on the filed every spring.

I remember the hoopla surround the fact that both he and Al Davis share a July 4th birthday, and here we are a little over a week later. If the reports are true then I'd like to say RIP to the Boss. Man first Bob Sheppard now this? The Yanks are dropping like flies

George and Sheppard at the same time? Man, this week sucks. Having been lucky enough to actually see him up close at Old Timers day, he was a very, very special man. He commanded your respect and attention, and it's hard to believe he's really gone. God must be putting together a team... He certainly has the greatest sports owner we've ever known.

Former Yankee and current Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly joined the show to talk
about the passing of George Steinbrenner.
"He was tough," Mattingly said. "He was demanding. he wanted your best all the time. He wanted to win all the time."
Mattingly also talked about Steinbrenner's notorious grooming demands.
"There was a discipline there from the beginning," Mattingly said. "He wanted certain things and it was always that way. ... He felt like you needed to look neat and clean."
Dan asked Mattingly his favorite Steinbrenner story. Mattingly talked about when he hit homers in eight straight games and Steinbrenner said he was being selfish because the team didn't win. Mattingly said it escalated from there and Steinbrenner basically told him he wasn't coming back on the phone. Then Mattingly stood up. "From that point, when I stood up as a man, our relationship went in a different direction," Mattingly said.

I might be an avid Yankee's hater, but baseball wouldn't be the same without George and the Evil Empire. He continually turned baseball on its head and won at all costs LIKE A BOSS.
