I really wish they would change how players are selected for this game. Fan voting is retarded, there are some people that just should not be in this game lol.

I've always wanted the Yankees to win the clinching game at home after sweeping, this is a good thing!

Of all the games in recent years I thought this one was by far the largest talent gap between the teams, so of course the NL has to go ahead and win it just despite it.

I was scared to death they were gonna blow it in the 9th when they brought Broxton in (thank you for being a slow fat fuck Papi). I was wondering if Cholly had learned anything from the NLCS the last 2 years, but he got the job done this time. I was also surprised he used so many relievers and never pitched Timmy or Carpenter, and that he used Halladay at all since he was hinting all week about not using him.

It will actually be refreshing to see Game's 1 and 2 in an NL park for once, and hopefully after Bud's gone they'll change this stupid rule of awarding home field to the winner of the All Star game.

Manuel needed to win home field for himself in October.

Why was Ortiz even a runner when A-Rod could have replaced him? I haven't had a chance to watch replays or read about the game. I'm going off what I heard on the radio last night on my way home which said that Oritz was out on an outfield assist at 2nd and A-Rod never got into the game.

Yeah, there was some shit going on where he couldn't pinch-hit for Beltre for some reason I don't know, didn't wanna use A-Rod as a pinch-runner in case it went to extras, and then you can't pinch-hit for the last catcher, so that's why it was all outta sorts like that.

And yeah, the ball dropped in front of Marlon Byrd, he grabbed it, spun, and threw Big Papi at. Laughed my ass off when it happened.

Well, look, about the only thing Girardi does well is protecting his players. All that bullshit about not pinch hitting or running because "what if the game went to extras" is clearly just an excuse for him not wanting to risk hurting one of his best players. I mean, down by 2 in the 9th and you worry about extras? lol who buys that?

Also bringing in Thornton to a high leverage situation when you have Soria and Valverde back there is retarded lol but whatever, when you play like it's an exhibition and manage like it's an exhibition it's hard to take the whole thing seriously.

Isn't there a new rule where you can bring a normally 'finished' player back into the game now, in the case of a catcher or someone going down? I'm not sure how that works exactly.

I don't have first hand knowledge on how the game was going, but even if Ortiz batted, A-Rod could have ran and took over as DH for the rest of the game if it went to extra innings. Looking at the box score, it seems like every position was filled by players at their natural position.

I think the All-Star game has a rule to allow one player back into the game who had been taken out? Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Edit: From wikipedia

On April 28, 2010, MLB announced several rules changes for future All-Star Games, effective with the 2010 edition.[5]

Rosters were expanded by one extra position player, to a total of 34.
The designated hitter will be used in all games, even in National League ballparks.
Pitchers who start on the Sunday before the All-Star break will be replaced on the roster, but will still be recognized as All-Stars.
Each manager may designate a position player who will be eligible for game re-entry if the last position player is injured. This is in addition to a rule that allows a player to re-enter to replace an injured catcher.

There is, but like Ceph said.. Girardi didn't really manage to win. He made a lot of wtf calls, while Manuel actually managed to win, it seems.

Or they got tired of humiliating the NL. Either way, I don't care.

Yeah I'm happy with the outcome, this way four games can be played in Philly instead of just three

The rule is just incase people get injured, unless you wanted someone to pull an Argentina and fake an injury I don't think getting A-rod in woulda worked that way. Though it's pretty obvious Joe simply didn't want him in the game.

I'm not sure how much credit you can give Manual, it seemed like he was picking guys out of a hat. But hey, his moves worked. But again, when you manage and play like an exhibition it's hard to take anything about it seriously. It would be nice if when they say "this time it counts" that they actually, you know, play like it. If they want us to take the game seriously, find the best team that is actually willing to play the whole game and go from there. If teams say no because of the risk of injury than the thing shouldn't be more than an exhibition anyway.

Last night was fun if you enjoyed seeing guys whiff repeatedly (I do, but last night was redic). I mean, yeah, there were some hella good pitchers throwing last night but it seemed like everyone was in Ryan Howard "swing at everything" mode. And, I mean, when you have a bullpen of the best pitchers in baseball turned into 1/2 inning relievers who can blame them? Working the count is pointless. Swing as hard as you can and hope you run into a 99mph heater.
