lol I guess the Braves finally had enough of Escobar, sounds like they dumped him on Toronto and got Alex Gonzalez

    edit: yarp

The Blue Jays acquired shortstop Yunel Escobar and pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes from the Braves for shortstop Alex Gonzalez and minor leaguers Tim Collins and Tyler Pastronicky, according to a team press release.

That Collins kid actually looks like a pretty good pickup for the Braves. 20 years old at AA with a 15.3 k/9 (!!), 2.51 ERA, 1.00 WHIP? Not bad for fucking Escobar lol

Fina-fucking-lly. Sick and tired of his "I'll play hard for one inning, then drop a pop-out the next' attitude. Dude never seemed to seem to enjoy baseball, really.

I haven't looked up the other 2 guys we picked up, but I'm happy with this trade. Escobar always seems like the one guy who isn't enjoying himself, and while it's possible he reverts to being a .300 hitting shortstop with some power and good defense, I was getting sick of his act.

Jo-jo Reyes is crap, lol. He has decent stuff but he has had plenty of time to get it together and has failed repeatedly.

People over at MLB Rumors flipping out because they think the Braves got savaged in this. I don't think it was a 'pure talent' standpoint in terms of this trade as much as the front office being sick of Yunel not playing worth a shit, near his potential.. or giving a shit about what's going on in general. Bobby's never really liked the kid.

This is the most recent scouting report I could find on Tyler Pastornicky(SS)

**Blue Jays shortstop prospect Tyler Pastornicky is off to a decent start at High-A Dunedin, hitting .276/.354/.362 in 14 games, including .357 in his last ten. He's hit five doubles and drawn seven walks in 58 at-bats, with two steals. His fielding has been okay with two errors thus far. Pastornicky occasionally shows up on sleeper prospect lists. His tools are average, but scouts love his attitude and "baseball rat" work ethic. A fifth round pick in '08 out of high school in Bradenton, Florida, he has the skills to profile as a good utility infielder with speed, small ball ability, willingness to take a walk, and solid defense. Some scouts think he could improve his hitting enough to get beyond that.

Who cares how much talent or potential Yunel has. Look at tape of his fucking play. He looks like an asshole out there. He shows no emotion what-so-ever.

Escobar and Gonzalez is kind of a wash. Escobar has talent but he's clearly an airhead or something, and Gonzalez has been weird this year. He's not hitting for average or getting on base, but he's cranking out the home runs like nobody's business. Toronto must think that they can snap Escobar out of it and that Gonzalez is likely to have a bad 2nd half.

Were I a Braves fan though, I'd be most excited about the Collins guy.

Why do scouts care about height and weight when the NL Cy Young the last 2 years is about 110 pounds soaking wet? lol

because scouts are stupid. Just need to look at Kris Medlen of the Braves. Small guy who throws strikes and can get people out. That's all that matters.

Who knows. This trade is really more about getting rid of a malcontent, Gonzalez and the prospects are a bonus.

Also surprise, surprise, JP Ricciardi, the GM that signed Collins, likes the trade for the Braves.

lol, well, in his defense any time a guy has 70 strikeouts in 40 innings it's pretty impressive regardless of the level he's pitching at.

Probably the same reason they don't give a shit about a pitcher if he can't throw 98+ mph.

I personally think the Braves made out extremely well in this trade. Escobar was pretty much wasting away on that roster and they got some young talent in return.

Well to be fair, you can't teach speed, and I can't fault organizations looking to recruit hard throwers and sending them through the system to refine their mechanics. Size and weight really don't have to do much with that though... there are tons of guys in the majors who aren't intimidating physically but can throw the ball crazy hard.
