Hope he enjoys playing for a perma-4th place team with no hopes of moving up. Players usually perform better when they aren't under pressure anyway. That and he's a pussy.

    Enjoy Gonzalez, he'll do nothing.

and I say that because he played on a team with no pressure for years and still didn't produce.

He made a couple awesome plays last night that Yunel wouldn't have made. The jumping over the guy when he's about to get slammed.. he probably would've dived out of the way. And the glove to bare hand flip he did for the last out? Shit. Yunel would've let it eat him up. He had a good arm, no doubt.. but god damn I hated him.

If A-Gone hits .250 and 10 homers, it'd be better than Failnel.

As long as he isn't a black hole of unhappiness, that's fine.

If it makes you feel any better, the Mets have finally realized that Frenchy is an automatic out 90% of the season. Too bad the Braves didn't get more than Church for him..

I was all for the trade, but yeah. A shame it was basically Atlanta dumping their garbage on New York, like they did us. I imagine both GM's thought "Herpderp, I'm ripping these fuckers off!" when in reality, we ripped each other off. OH WELL.

As far as Yunel.. I dunno. Look at him over the last few years when he hit .320ish. He did it without pressure of a 1st place club or anything. We start winning and are in 1st place this year and where'd he go? Unhappy land. Bastard can enjoy obscurity in Canada now.

The only thing I'll say about Yunel is that it takes a lot of guts to give up on someone with his god-given talent. You never know what he's gonna turn out to be. He could turn out to be a headcase and out of the league in 2 years.. or he could turn into Robbie Cano (people said much the same things about him the last couple years)

Even if he turns into Robinson Cano(which I highly doubt), it was still the right move. You can't trade a guy based on what he is going to do elsewhere, you trade him based on what he is going to do for your club. Yunel has always had a bad attitude, and this year he wasn't even playing well.

But Cano always looked like he put forth the effort, though that's coming from a non-fan, so I'm not sure how he was every day. Watching Yunel was like russian roulette with a cannon as the gun. He'd either be REALLY fucking good and explode, or be REALLY bad and just give up on shit.

But yeah, Atlanta's had huge hits and misses. No one will ever forget the Tex deal where they lost Andrus (potential all-star) and Feliz in the deal. :/

Can we agree to never mention the Tex deal ever again?

Just think. It's management's fault we had to deal with ESCOBAR instead of Elvis Andrus

Well, see a lot of people didn't think Cano put in the effort. His defense was questioned, as was the time he spent with Melky off the field. He was an undisciplined hitter, never walked, always seemed to strike out if the count wasn't in his favor. And now he's broken out and is an MVP candidate.

My point is that what media and fans perceive as bad attitude might have a lot to do with his age and how mature (or not) he is. To be fair, when I watched Yunel he looked worse than Cano ever was. But again... it's still a pretty large risk to give up on a guy like that, headache or not.

I don't think Yunel will ever reach his ceiling so long as he continues to play the way he does. It would take a lot of work and he's not the type of guy who comes to the park and looks excited to play, at least whenever I've seen him play the mets. He can be a good investment in a rebuilding team, but he's not a player who is valuable on a championship team.

That said, the mike pelfrey Meltdown continues and jerry manuel still hasn't pulled him, awesome.

Cueto gave another stingy performance, then sat back to see if the bullpen would waste it again. The bullpen has blown five leads for Cueto, the most for any pitcher in the majors.

Not this time. Three relievers gave up three walks, but held the Nationals without a hit the rest of the way. The Nationals finished with four hits.

In his last six starts, Cueto has allowed five earned runs for a 1.16 ERA.
I didn't realize it was that bad, damn.

Fun fact, A-rod is at 598 home runs...

Alex hit his 500th career home run in Yankee Stadium off Kyle Davies of the Royals on a Saturday. The Royals are coming to the Bronx this week. Saturday’s scheduled starter? Kyle Davies.
