My favorite part of the article is that it's from SURPRISE, Arizona. And I know he claims to have only done coke once, but that would be quite some coincidence.

Washington said he used cocaine only once during the season. When asked if that was the only time he used illegal drugs, Washington said "the drug we're talking about, yes."
Bah, didn't notice it up there.

Being how much difficulty he was having making a throw to first base by the end of his career, i'm amazed he managed to connect with a good punch.

    I think my favorite was:
Word has it he got very upset during an argument, and she made it worse. She kept throwing things at him from a distance of 5 feet, and hitting him square in the nose, but when he threw back, he kept missing badly, upsetting him even more... Hence the assault

One start lost, kind of a bullshit suspension in my opinion. By that, Zito should have gotten a 5 day as well for plunking Fielder.

Chapman was pretty solid today. Don't understand how the Reds' bats couldnt do anything after scoring 13 yesterday

Cliff Lee reported to have a right abdomen strain or something like that, re-evaluated in 7 days or whatever.

Another great outing by Kendrick too, 5 innings 2 runs and 4 strikeouts.

Joe Mauer isn't going anywhere. After months of anticipation, the Twins reached an agreement with Mauer on an eight-year, $184MM extension today. The contract will keep the soon-to-be 27-year-old in Minnesota from 2011 to 2018.

The agreement was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter) and the Twins disclosed the contract's terms, including its full no-trade clause, via press release. Rosenthal (via Twitter) and ESPN.com's Buster Olney suggested earlier in the day that the sides were nearing a deal.

The deal, which covers Mauer's first eight free agent seasons, averages out to $23MM per year. That's the fourth largest deal in MLB history, topped only by Alex Rodriguez's $275MM contract with the Yankees, Rodriguez's $252MM contract with Texas, and Derek Jeter's $189MM deal.
That's insanity for a catcher lol.

He is a good enough athlete to play in the outfield, i expect them to move him to either RF or LF eventually

Problem being as a corner outfielder he basically has to retain all of the power he added last year to be worth this contract. I'm glad the Twins held onto him and this has a chance to be a bargain for them, but there are a lot of ways for it to go wrong also.

Braves v. Mets on ESPN, good shit. Mejia looked very good for the Mets earlier, Heyward now up in a clutch situation.

So, do you think they'll keep Heyward down for a while, or put him on the opening day roster and lose an arbitration year?

if I had my guess, they'll pull a Rays.. keep Heyward down for a bit so they can get him to sign a contract (like Longoria), and then bring him up.

I would prefer him to start in the minors, I think we have a deep enough bench to do ok without him. It will also give the enormous hype a chance to die down, and like I have said before could give us a nice boost when he comes up.
