I'm just gonna hope all of my guys turn it around >.>

Can't see any trade possibilities that will single-handedly win me the league.

It's games like this that make us the best hitting team in the NL, but then they have games where they score nothing..it's so bad.

Top 4 in the lineup are:

    4-5
    3-5
    4-5
    4-4

The rest of the lineup is been pretty shit.

The Brewers will not go undefeated after Uecker's return, sad.

12 runs tonight on 19 hits? Guess we are getting shutout tomorrow by a guy with an ERA nearing 6. Sorry bout your luck, T-Wood.

Was great to see Wainwright get lit up however. 6 runs over 5 and his ERA ballooned to like 2.27.

In Ash's defense, he's been around for a little while! You need a partner in crime, man. Like Ochocinco needs Ochouno.

Cliff Lee just got really really pissed that the Phillies didn't want to keep him.

I grew up a Reds fan, I remember Pete Rose managing and remember Marge Schott. I assure you, I'm not a fair weathered Reds fan. Not sure you can be since we haven't had a good year since getting shutdown by Al Leiter in a play-in game in 99.

We signed Griffey that off season and the woeful oughts began.

Seriously though, I wish the Reds had picked up Lee, but only if it was a trade and sign type deal. Jockety didn't really rent players with St Louis, so doubt he'd start here.

The Twins have scored 50 runs and have 58 hits over the past three games. Useless fact: the last team to have 19+ hits in each game over a three game span was the New York Giants in 1933.

Robert from Chelmsford, Massachusetts asks: With Jon Lester having a Cy Young season, I thought I would ask what your take is on what it takes to win the Cy Young award. Is it 90 percent ERA, which has very little to do with what team you play on, or is it weighted substantially by W-L record, SOs, walks and so on, which are more influenced by your team of origin, if you will.

Answer: This is a particularly interesting question for me, Bob, as I have one of the two Cy Young votes for the Boston chapter of the Baseball Writers of America (BBWAA). And I've never voted for the Cy Young (though I've voted for MVP, Manager of the Year, and Rookie of the Year in the last three seasons). To me, win-loss record is one of the least important factors, as we saw last year with Zack Greinke. There are so many things that can impact whether a pitcher gets a win or a loss, many of which have nothing to do with how well he pitches. I'll take things like ERA, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) into account, along with ERA-plus, which adjusts ERA to ballpark and league. For example, at the moment, Cliff Lee leads the American League in ERA-plus with a 162. (Over 100 indicates better than average). Ultimately, I'll look at a lot of factors, as I take my voting responsibilities very seriously.

I know Amalie's voting logic can't speak for the entirety of the BBWAA voters, but be real -- there's not even an element of "omgroyhalladay," or "might as well give it to Lincecum" in her answer. The writers don't vote like that. That's just stupid.
That's actually very refreshing to see. I have a pretty jaded view of end-of-year voting in general, so thank you for proving me wrong :D

I'm not sure why that would suddenly instill faith in yearly awards. I guess it's better than homing in on W/L and ERA, but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

It's not, actually. It amazes me that a professional baseball writer can say "I don't like win/loss record because it relies on things outside the pitcher's control" and then decide to use ERA and ERA+ like it doesn't suffer from the same thing. This is why there are stats like FIP and WAR to help evaluate pitchers on the whole scale rather than just one or two flawed statistics. Chances are ERA+ will get it right most of the time, but still.

Francisco Liriano has the highest WAR and FIP in the AL for pitchers at 5.1 WAR and 2.13 FIP.

He doesn't have a chance at the Cy Young. He didn't even have a chance at being an all-star.
