Also to be honest I'm not a big fan of FIP and FIP+, and I know a growing contingent of metrics guys are feeling that way too. There are way to many anomalies to that stat for it to really be taken too seriously.

By itself, obviously, you can't take it seriously. But if a pitcher has a big gap between his ERA and his FIP you can deduce a lot of things about his true effectiveness.
