I was just reading the interview on 700 Level. I personally think it's a dumb idea -- think of how much scorn someone in New York gets if they say they're a Mets AND a Yankees fan. I simply won't watch the Athletics if they're in Philly, and I know a lot of people won't go to games after the initial novelty wears off.

I'm not sure people realize how big of a deal it is to move a pro baseball team to another city. I would guess that it'd take at least a decade to sort out all the details.

If the Braves were the Reds or the Brewers or whoever else can actually score, it'd be different.
Except he gave up more than 2 runs ONCE in those six starts, when he gave up 3. Saying the offense has to press because they are down 1-2 runs is lulzy(and means you have much deeper problems than an allegedly inconsistent pitcher with a 2.19 ERA over his past 6 starts). You can't blame that on the pitcher. I'd also like to find a place where it shows runs given up by inning because I think you are exaggerating that anyway.

It makes perfect sense for a team with playoff aspirations, I explained why earlier. You don't follow the Braves enough you say? Maybe you should trust me when I tell you he was a petulant malcontent. Not getting along with Cox isn't an excuse, he is a professional baseball player. If it was a simple as waiting out Cox and having him magically change personalities, we would have kept him. As far as the eye test is concerned, Gonzalez is a much better defender, making him an upgrade offensively, defensively, and to team chemistry.

Glad I missed the game last night

I don't see how Philly could possibly support 2 teams, especially since the Phillies have more of a bandwagon fan base than a hard core one. Even I can admit that once we start sucking again attendance will go down and the team will revert back to a mid market franchise.

At the very least the A's would have to actually spend if they want to draw fan support here, and who knows if that would ever happen.

It's past 2:30pm CST, bidding was originally planned at 11am, and jack shit has happened since the objection to Cuban's bid was shot down at 9am.

    Fucking shoot me.

What does Mark Cuban know about baseball lol. And are you saying his bid was rejected or the objection to Cuban being allowed to bid was overruled.

He is a pretty shrewd businessman and team owner, though.

He's a good business owner you're right, but it's not like basketball. Takes some level of passion to run a successful team. If he knows enough I think he could easily handle it. Just doesn't seem like a baseball guy to me. Then again I don't know shit about Texas so.

Initially, he wanted to be additional financial backing for Greenburg/Ryan, but that didn't pan out. He knows how to not put a team into bankruptcy though, so in that regard, he's more than qualified. Daniels will be making any baseball decisions--not sure if Nolan would stick around under Cuban.

But initially, Cuban and his partner, Jim Crane, had to have their bid approved by the court this morning or Greenburg/Ryan would've won outright. A few minutes ago, Cuban/Crane's bid proved to be $25 million higher, Greenburg/Ryan are objecting to it and asking for more time to go over the bid.

As of now they have about an hour, with the parties reconvening in about 30 minutes supposedly.

    What a mess.

No shit. It's either Yankee encore (which I wont see), a Yankee Classic which gets played who the fuck knows when, or a 2-minute highlight with Kay/Sterling yelling like a retard. I saw 400, 450, and 500.

Well Ryan's group has the blessing of the MLB the way I understood it over the ESPN article. But the courts now are intervening and I can understand why they would object to Cuban even being allowed a vote. I think it would be great for Baseball if Ryan got control of the team, but that situation is so fucked like you said lol, mess.

It's likely MLB won't object to Cuban; however, they have said any group besides Greenburg/Ryan would take far longer for full approval--basically, until next season.

    Hello free agency/arbitration clusterfuck.

Also, I'm with Moss on the Yunel Escobar thing. It doesn't matter how high some scouts thing his ceiling is when he simply doesn't look like he wants to play. You could just see the way he doesn't give a shit about his teammates. The initial trade was a good move for a team pushing towards the playoffs. The second trade was really dumb and a desperation move forced by the whole Mcclouth and terrible OF situation the braves have.

Whatever happens they'd have to get it done before the end of this year. Texas has a lot of great talent and a good team to have it all fall apart because the MLB stepped in too late.

Didn't Cuban try to buy the Cubs a year or two ago? He's definitely interested in a baseball team

He did, however, MLB rejected the bid.

This is a totally different situation though. Right now, Rangers are on MLB's tab. They want them off of it.
