I don't think the NL East has changed a game in the last month. I think there is some rule that the lead has to remain at 2.5 games. At this point, if Atlanta had an off day and Philly played, I would put money on a rain out. Even if the game was played in a dome.

Also, WTF @ Reds pitching implosion. We needed MASSET and CORDERO to go 4IP in relief to clean up the mess of what the rest of the entire staff did the other 8IP.

And lol @ Zito for getting random loss hung on him.

The Braves have a division lead, but for some reason, I feel like they are in third place. The way they play on the road.. I mean.. it's dreadful. If they don't get home field in the playoffs by virtue of the best record, they're majorly fucked. That's even assuming they can get to the playoffs. I like the Cardinals better, I like the Giants better. Ugh. I feel like if the Phillies get on a small run, Atlanta's boned, though I hope that's not the case. Atlanta's pitching on the road, especially this road trip was just dreadful.

The Phillies are back to beyond frustrating. About to get swept by the Astros? Really? I was hoping the Ryan Howard explosion the other night would wake the team up to how important these games are, but the offense is as lethargic as ever. The division is looking like it will come down to the last few weeks when the Phillies and Braves play each other for what, 6 games?

Wow. Phillies and Braves both suck major dick, lol. Granted the Rockies sweeping the Braves at home isn't as bad as the Astros sweeping the Phillies on the road, but still. Jesus. NL East.. more like NL Least :/

Interesting blurb I found on Buster Posey from Stark's column today on ESPN. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

How 'bout this amazing stat on Buster Posey, which was passed along to us by loyal reader Daniel Rathman: In 334 career plate appearances, Posey has never made an out on a pop-up to the infield. Never.

Nationals just announced that Strasburg has a torn ligament in his elbow and will need Tommy John surgery. Sad.

We probably figured as much. Can't say I'm really surprised. He's young enough though, he'll have plenty of time to get another shot at things.

I'm sick of the stats not updating, even after games. I've been getting wins and it says I'm stuck on 89, strikeouts keep recording so idk wtf is going on.

Yeah, it's messed up. Some nights I go to bed in 6th place and then when I check it in the morning, I'm somehow 8th or 9th. It definitely doesn't update in real time anymore.

Kind of ironic that Nationals find out he's going to need Tommy John the day Jordan Zimmermann comes back from Tommy John. News station I listen to in the car when sports came on, kept talking about how the Nats were hoping their rotation to be anchored by Strausberg and Zimmermann next season and now those hopes are crushed. On the positive, it keeps the sports section from going on and on about the Redskins for the full 1.5-2minutes sports is talked about.

Sucks for the Nats, but they probably should have eased him into it a bit better. He started doing too much too soon. Hell, look where Hellickson is - back in AAA, being monitored and kind of coddled so he'll be an asset in years to come. He's quite good (as is Strasburg) but they really had him doing too much too soon. Shame, but he's young enough to recover.

I'm pissed that the Rays games will not be televised because they did not sell out. Well, people who are like me are smart, they don't want to go to a game where they'll be surrounded by obnoxious Red Sox fans. I will never again go to a Rays/Red Sox game. Also, it's too fucking far.

It's sad that the Rays can't pack their own stadium with their own fans. I realize we're a new(ish) franchise and naturally locals are going to have been fans of other teams for years - hell, when the Lightning play the Pens, you bet your ass I'll be there in the fucking arena cheering for my team and not the shitty local team. I'd do the same for football, as well, except for the fact that the Bucs tickets are ridiculously expensive. It still sucks that they have to black us out simply because people (like me) do not want to put up with Red Sox fans because they're all fucking douchebags.

If you think the rays have it bad like that, the orioles have it 10x worse. When the red sox or yankees play at Camden yards, the stadiums are basically sox or yank fans and it's only an 7hr or 3hr drive respectivly. I was dating a girl from Boston who went to school in Baltimore and she told me it's cheaper for a family of 4 to get good seats to a game in Baltimore then Boston almost. We were at lunch at the hard rock cafe in Baltimore and the sox were in town, and a family of 4 with red sox gear on turned to me at my table and demanded I take my yankees hat off. I laughed at them and minded my own business but they just glared at me until they left.

Well there are a lot of Yanks fans because a lot of them seem to move here, also, here in Tampa is where they spring train. Probably half of my sports-watching coworkers are Yankees fans. It does suck to hear louder cheering for the opposing team than the home team. Maybe in the next twenty years or so we'll start caring more about our hometown team. Or maybe if we win a Series.

The Nationals don't have the advantage of having 5 good starting pitchers already, though. Do you doubt that Hellickson would be in the bigs already if were on any other team? He's one of the most highly touted LHP prospects in a long time. I don't know what else the Nats could have done, they didn't bring him up right away and they kept him on a strict pitch/innings count. Sometimes, this shit happens. Plenty of major leaguers come back strong from TJS though, so it's not like the kid is doomed.

Oh, I didn't really know they were hurting so badly for pitchers. I guess I just figured they wanted him more than someone else. It's not often I pay much attention to the Nationals. Shit does happen, but it does seem like he just jumped right up really quickly instead of easing more into the position, maybe for lack of having much of a choice, but he is just a kid anyway, so he'll probably be back, hopefully for longer next time.

Wow, so i was so annoyed that Atl blew a 9 run lead the other day that i took a day off from following baseball, and only just saw that the Phills got swept also. Hilarious.

You can only baby a guy so much before it gets ridiculous. It's easy to look back now and say "ah they shoulda rested him more!" after he tears a ligament, but like Ceph said the Nats were already watching him very closely. It's a shitty situation no doubt, but not one I think could have been avoided. At some point you just have to let the kid play and hope he doesn't get hurt.
