That is a stupid excuse. I don't care if your down ten runs or 1 run, you do what is needed to do to spark your team and start a rally. From the sounds of it the Marlins didn't even make an attempt to hold him on, so shame on them for giving up two bases which eventually let him score.

Also, Reds takes 2 out of 3 from STL to seal the Central this weekend. Arroyo and Bailey win their games. Chapman only in one of three games. If shit does start again, let Chapman takes someone's head off so he can get suspended and stay fresh for October.

Edit: After researching for about 30 seconds, the Rays held sole possession of first place as recently as August 4th, and had it for a bit of a stretch ending June 13th.

NEW YORK -- Washington Nationals outfielder Nyjer Morgan has been suspended for eight games for a series of recent incidents, including his role in a benches-clearing brawl Wednesday against the Florida Marlins.

In its announcement Friday, Major League Baseball cited the following incidents in its decision to suspend Morgan:

• Aug. 28 at home: Morgan unnecessarily ran into St. Louis Cardinals catcher Bryan Anderson in the bottom of the eighth.

• Aug. 31 at the Marlins: Morgan directed inappropriate comments toward fans during the 10th inning.

• Wednesday at Florida: Morgan charged the mound in the top of the sixth inning, fought during the ensuing benches-clearing incident and directed inappropriate gestures and comments towards the fans as he left the field.

The eight-game ban is is in addition to the seven-game suspension and undisclosed fine issued to Morgan for his inappropriate actions in an Aug. 21 game at Philadelphia. Morgan has appealed the suspension.

MLB also issued suspensions to several Marlins players.

Pitcher Chris Volstad has been suspended for six games and fined an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Morgan on two occasions and for fighting during the benches-clearing incident; pitcher Alex Sanabia has received a five-game suspension for fighting; first baseman Gaby Sanchez has received a three-game suspension for his aggressive actions and fighting; and pitcher Jose Veras has been fined for his aggressive actions and comments during the incident.

Also, Nationals pitcher Doug Slaten has received a three-game suspension for intentionally throwing a pitch at Sanchez in the bottom of the seventh after a warning had been issued in the sixth inning.

Additionally, Nationals manager Jim Riggleman has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount, Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed, and Nationals third base coach Pat Listach has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount.

The players' suspensions are scheduled to begin with Friday's games.

Man that's a lot of fucking suspensions and bans. Especially for the coaches, that's crazy. Also, only 3 games for Gaby sanchez after that wicked fucking clothesline.

Yea, Sanchez got fucking lucky. I was expecting a 5 game for him. I think Riggleman got the second day for admitting in an interview he asked his vets if they wanted to plunk someone in retaliation. Don't know why Listach got 3 games though, must have missed something on that.

Listach tackled Volstaad and was on top of him for the duration of the fight. He threw a few punches from what I saw in the video.
