As far as what 'my' GM said.. I ain't got control over what they say, lol. I think it's a bandbox, but I"m not gonna blame that on winning or losing. They've had it for a good while and only just really started winning a few years ago, so eh. I'm happy you guys finally got some pitching though.. wish it weren't going to kick Atlanta's ass in the last season for Bobby, but eh.

As far as giving up the second most in the league..who? Phily? If so, yeah. 161 by ESPN's stats, Braves give up the second least at 118ish.
Yeah, the Phillies are second to the Diamondbacks in giving up home runs. Home field advantage is a real double edged sword in baseball. The Phillies have good home and road splits. I feel like they can play in any kind of park even though their power numbers are down.

LOL. Awesome, Matty D. Struggling at the plate, but taking down field runners. Good for him.

I have to say despite the loss. the rook pitched surprisingly well in a pressure situation.

Also < Matty D. His reasoning was that he felt the kid would be better off tripped than tased.

So i'm really beginning to think Neyer may be the most retarded person doing ESPN Baseball commentary. He's running down his end of the year picks and for whatever god damn reason, thinks no one is even close to touching Jason Heyward for rookie of the year. All because of his OBP. Never mind the fact Posey has put up better overall numbers with less at bats at the hardest position in the game, while also working with one of the best starting staff's in baseball. Seriously if Heyward runs away with this award cause people won't stop riding his dick, i'll be giving up entirely on individual awards.

    You haven't already? lolyou

Also, people could argue Tommy Hanson should have won the ROTY last year for what he did with the Braves, but due to the fact that he didn't come up until late (sorda like Posey), he didn't get as much consideration, so Chris Coghlan won instead, mainly due to his average and OBP. Not saying any of it's right, but lol @ actually truly caring about individual awards.

    1) Less at bats works against Posey. Heyward has been more valuable on the year in part because he's played in a lot more games and has a lot more PA. There is nearly a 200 PA difference!

    2) 1/3rd of Posey's games have come at first base. That greatly declines his value on the year as well.

Heyward should run away with the award and you're being a homer. If Posey was on any other team, you wouldn't give two shits.

Uhh, Heyward has 478 at bats, Posey has 360. 118 = 200? Also I don't think it's been 1/3 of the games. I'm trying to find the breakdown, but he was only up for about 2-3 weeks before the giants traded Molina, moving him full time to catcher. I think he's played 3-5 games at first since as a break for his knees while keeping his bat in the lineup. Found out he spent 30 games at First base, 63 at catcher. Damn you Molina. Even still, overall since he's been up he's been a better hitter and player then Heyward.

    Heyward

So tell me, how is this supposed to work against Posey? I have no idea what GO/AO is, but everything else, if Posey was up since day 1, outside of OBP he'd be beyond what Heyward has done. But then again ESPN and the media have been calling Heyward the second coming of jesus since day one of spring training.

    PA isn't AB

Heyward has 574 PA. Posey has 393. Big difference in ab/pa because Heyward actually walks.

Games started for posey at 1b: 30
games started for posey at c: 63

    30/93 = 32.3%, aka, 1/3rd

if Posey was up since day 1, outside of OBP he'd be beyond what Heyward has done.
But, he wasn't. And if Mike Stanton hit 70 HRs this year, he'd be beyond what Heyward has done. But he hasn't. "IF" is "IF" for a reason. Also you cannot say he'd have the same numbers in 200 PA. With 200 more PA, Posey would likely regress and have worse numbers.

Sure, IF Posey had been up since day 1. He wasn't. You can't give awards based on what could have potentially happened.

God damn did Ensam just put you in your place, sorry Mel. D:

Also gotta figure in (as retarded as it is) time missed due to injury. I don't personally give two shakes about it, but some voters out there will, and they'll assume his numbers may be better if he got his finger looked at earlier.. but that doesn't matter at this point.

Well, remember these are the same people who give theoretical outs for people who don't make enough at bats for a batting average award, so if they can do that to determine a batting title, they can factor in averages over a year if someone comes up a month later.

What they do for batting average is take the difference in PA required (502) and for those outs.

That will be about ~100 more outs for posey, which drops his batting average from .325 to .254. I think that shows you just the impact of playing time has.

Now, all this said, I'm sure basically everybody anywhere would agree Posey is a great talent and likely a top-5 catcher going forward. IF Posey was here the whole year and IF Posey performed over those 200 PA the same way, I'm sure everybody would agree Posey would probably top Heyward because of how valuable a C is. But you can only look at what actually happened.

You must not have watched them a lot this season. They've been terrible in the field all year, lol. They're close to the bottom with the Nats and Marlins in that category. Not to mention their pitching has slacked. This is just the same cluyb I've seen all year on the road.
