Felix Hernandez gives up two hits over eight innings and still gets the loss (12-12 now). The historically awful Mariner's offense has scored 100 fewer runs than anyone else in the American League, and 54 fewer runs than anyone in the NL. Yet somehow, Ichiro ties the major league record for most seasons with 200+ hits.

I'll be really curious about the AL Cy Young.

Sabathia will win because he's got the fabled 20 wins and plays for the Yankees. Sad, but true. Felix leads the majors in like.. 10+ categories as far as pitching goes, and he'll probably come in third behind CC and Price.

Greinke won last year, so you never know - maybe they wised up a little bit.

    ...Nah.

Felix will be higher then price in voting. I think so long as Felix does not have a losing record, i'd put him at about a 40% chance of winning the cy young. If he has a loosing record though, CC will have some new hardware.

If CC pitches 16 innings tonight, gives up negative 13 runs, and strikes out 43, he would not have better stats than Felix Hernandez.

lmao.. actually, that's cool of you to admit. I have a Yankee friend from another game who stands behind the 'wins mean everything' argument. 'HE'S GOT 20 WINS AND IS ON THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUEEEE111!11ONE".. so absurd.

You know how much I hate the "wins" stat. It's not like I'm going to make an excuse just because it's CC. If that stupidass stat was called "times left with the lead" no one would care about it.

I agree, I hate wins as a cy young stat, but the writers who vote on these damn awards are almost as as old school let human element be a part of the game as Selig is. I still am in shock that both Greinke and Lincecum won last year with them only having 15 wins each.

There is other precedent for the voters going away from wins. A couple years back Josh Beckett actually knew how to pitch, and put up a 20 win season with some other decent numbers. If memory serves, I think CC won the Cy Young that year with the Indians. Of course, there was no question that CC had been the better pitcher that year in the regular season (similar ERA, about a dozen more Ks, and a full 40 more innings pitched), but the point still stands that the guy with 20 wins didn't get the hardware.

Fun fact, Josh Beckett is getting paid 12.5 million dollars to post a -1.0 bWAR. So good, that staff of five aces!

And really, there was no other stand out candidate last year in the AL besides Greinke. Ditto the NL with Timmy. This year there are a lot of pitchers having outstanding years. It'll be interesting to see how exactly the voters go. If I had to guess, I'd say CC wins it but Felix gets a lot more votes than people think he will.

I'm hoping Cole Hamels gets some votes in the NL. He's been having the most amazing year that no one's paid attention to at all. Halladay or Wainright deserve it, but he probably deserves somewhere around third or fourth place.

They should give it to Ubaldo and Dallas.

They started the year of the pitcher.

Speaking of Cy Young races, this made me laugh very hard.

The thing that jumped out the most for me honestly was Francisco Cordero at 8.
