Keep in mind that Lee's never pitched on short rest before, so they might not want to push his limits if they can avoid it. It's good that the Rangers won though, so that Clifford can see the uniforms he's going to be wearing next year up close.
Lee has never thrown on 3 days rest, ever. If he was going to do it why wouldn't he have gone on 3 days in the division series to try to prevent a game 5 from ever happening?
They'll see him in game 3 and game 7 if it gets that far. Like I said above, he's never gone on 3 days rest in his entire career, and if he was going to start doing it you would have seen it in the division series. If Lee actually starts on 3 days rest it would probably benefit the Yankees since he relies on control so much.
I can understand Texas not pitching him in game four. Best case scenario, you have him locked up for game one in the ALCS. If you do have to go back to Tampa, you have your ace for the deciding game, in the same matchup that you won with in game one.
About Lee NEVER throwing on 3 days rest before, he's really only had the opportunity to once. He didn't start in the postseason for Cleveland in 2007 as he was in AAA Buffalo at the time. (Sabathia, Carmona, Westbrook, Byrd was that rotation. Yes, Cleveland thought that would work.) He was able to start games one and four in the NLDS for Philly last year because there were two days off between games two and three. He didn't have time to start two games in the NLCS before Philly clinched. I don't know why Chawlie didn't start him on short rest in game four of the WS, especially being down 2-1, but I'm sure he had his reasons. Anyway, to say he's never done it before, and therefore cannot do it now, considering he's had all of one real chance to do so (two if you want to count game four of the Tampa series) I think is a little premature.
Honestly, I'm fine with Lee going in game three. When we travel to New York, I want him to take the mound. You can then bump him up on three days rest for a start in game six and four for game seven. If our other pitchers can't pick up the slack, we aren't winning the series anyways.
I remember the Rangers tossing him in the rotation every five days instead of every five games this season and it didn't work out so well. His back didn't help matters, but he definitely didn't look as sharp. The playoffs are a whole other animal though, so who knows, maybe he is already begging for the game two start and saying he'll go three days rest all series to start three times.
I don't give a damn, I'm playing with house money as far as I'm concerned right now.
Well not really. You need to be both mentally prepared and physically prepared to pitch on three days rest. From what I've heard about Lee as well is that, he's old school and doesn't ice after games, so he's not like the average pitcher. He'd have to completely alter his prep routine and that's a lot to do in the post season with all the pressure.
Also, I wouldn't just bypass C.J. Wilson's starts. He was just sick against Tampa.
As far as the Rays losing players after this season, we know Crawford's gone, so I'm not expecting to see him next year. I'd really hope that we decide to keep Soriano and get rid of Pena. Pena has been horrible all year. For someone who is supposed to be a power hitter, he doesn't hit much of fucking shit. As far as impact, Soriano's has been much greater.
Of course, I'm not sure the Rays will even be a contender next year. I'm disappointed all around in how the Rays got shut down so hard by Texas.
And yeah, I'm still pretty grumpy about the loss. Today was not a good day at work.
But has C.J. Wilson ever started on three days rest?!?!?!
Either way, you'll get Wilson and Lee twice in a long series.
Don't be silly, they'll contend. Price/Garza/Davis/Hellickson is pretty lethal. They might not make the playoffs, especially in that division, but I can't see them below 85 wins again next season.
Well Blanton did come from Oakland. He's probably thinking he's still dreaming that he's in the playoffs and on a team that can actually hit.
lol? You guys won your series through Brooks Conrad, not like you were hittin bombs.
From Ron Washington, on starting Lee in Game 4 of the ALDS:
"The numbers didn't look good," said manager Ron Washington. "We're going to use our whole pitching staff."
Take that as you will, but I don't see how the numbers change in the ALCS. It doesn't mean he can't be effective, but do you really want to roll the dice on a game the Rangers may have to win? If he goes on 3 days and gets bombed it could cost Washington his job.
CJ against the Yankees this year: 3 starts, 14.1 innings, 18 hits, 11 runs. Just sayin. He has one of the highest BB/9 rates in the majors and the Yankees are a very patient team that walks and hits home runs. That's a dangerous combination.
I don't think Washington's job would be on the line if he pitched Lee and he gets shelled. He's no Grady Little. Personally I think pitching Lee in game three is the right move, but if you lose the first two games at home, you'd be asking a lot of Lee and the rest of your staff to survive. If you throw Lee game two, you'd set him up to pitch game six and not game seven, which could make a world of difference.
Just for the record, I'm agreeing with your Yankees in six call.
There's no way Washington will get fired now, it would take a ton of mismanagement for that to happen.
Because Wash thought Hunter could get it done at home. They also had already won both games in Tampa so they didn't have some urgency to win game 4 because they knew they had Lee up on full rest for game 5.Lee has never thrown on 3 days rest, ever. If he was going to do it why wouldn't he have gone on 3 days in the division series to try to prevent a game 5 from ever happening?
Lee has never really had the opportunity to pitch on short rest, I think he can do it.
Might as well use him to the fullest before the Yankees get him. Although if the Rangers win the World Series I'm betting Lee sticks around - the Rangers will make a competitive offer, especially now with the billion dollar TV deal.
Even if the Rangers lose to the Yankees in the ALCS, it's still a huge step for the club. Even without Lee they are competitive for years to come.
Just remember, the AL MVP's bat was silent in this series. Yankees better hope it doesn't wake up.
I have no clue what your talking about, but your team wasn't lighting up the offense either. The reds gift wrapped you guys a sweep. 7 Earned Runs scored during your sweep, 4 of them on a game 1 starter that had way too much adrenaline and nerves to be effective.
And if you were replying to me, Oakland = San Francisco?
Echoing the sentiment they should makea move to keep Soriano. Having him and Benoit was such a lethal pairing. Pena has a lot of RBI and gets on base a lot through walks at least...but he has good hitters in the rotation in front of him, he is supposed to have a lot of RBI.
Price/Garza/Hellickson/Davis(or Niemann, idk what the contract situations are exactly) would be pretty boss. Our hitting has to get better though, we just cant keep competing otherwise, especially in the division with the two highest scoring teams in baseball. Don't expect to make the playoffs. Maybe Zobrist and Bartlett will return to their 2009 forms, Upton will finally learn to track a ball and not lead the majors in strikeouts, Jaso continues to improve and actually gets to play, and some other rookie like Jennings steps in and plays well...
Yea, I'm sure that will all happen.
I'm still really angry, I'm gunna hate the world for a while. At least we didnt get to lose to Philly in the WS again. I think I would destroy that city if it happened twice.
This better be the only thing I see Kendrick doing for the Phillies until next spring.

Again I'll believe Lee pitching on short rest when I see it. Hell, I hope they do it because I think it's a huge mistake and reduces the chances of him being effective. Everyone saw what happened to him when his mechanics failed him right after getting traded.
And eh, if the Yankees lose it won't be because of Hamilton, it'll be because the Rangers front 3 pitched well. The Yankees can hit with anyone, and a bullpen of Robertson/Logan/Wood/Mariano is a clear advantage over O'day/Oliver/Ogando/Feliz. It comes down to the starters... just like most series.
