I haven't followed discussion in this thread closely, but I was curious Cephius, if you thought the Yankees are better/worse than last year and by how much? It looks to me like it hinges on how well Pettitte and Hughes perform in the rotation.

CJ in game two against the Rays (team that led the majors in walks): 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K.
CJ's other start against the Rays: 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K
Things can change.
More fun stats for CJ though:
K/BB ratio: 1.83
OPP AVG: .217
HR Allowed: 10 (only 3 after the All Star break)
I wouldn't be writing him off...just sayin'
They're better in almost every way, but not by much. Outfield defense is way better with Gardner and Granderson now that Damon is gone, their bullpen is better with the addition of Wood (Logan/Marte as the LOOGY is pretty much a wash) the rotation is more deep with Hughes coming into his own, everything else is pretty much status quo. AJ has been worse but Andy has been better, CC is the same, Jeter declined but Cano has been a beast, they lost Matsui but got the same production out of the DH spot over the season. So yeah, they're better but not by much, hard to improve on a 103 win team that won the whole thing anyway. Biggest difference to me is how every ball in the OF is caught, saving hits and turning doubles into singles helps a lot.
As for what the series hinges on, yeah, it's always the starting pitching![]()
The A's offense back when he played for them doesn't even touch what the Phils can put out. The Phils are streaky players, but they haven't faced matt cain yet so be ready for them to score more than a few runs game 2.
In any case it's laughable to say he's "dreaming", considering the Phils put up the 2nd most runs in the NL...
Uhh, you realize Oakland's offense has sucked major ass to the point they make the Giants look like Murder's Row the past few years? Dude, you've been whooshed bad. I made the dreaming comment cause he went to a shit team to a good team.
And what makes you think your going to light up matt cain? Just remember your big 3 has posted a collective 4.8 ERA this year vs the Giants.
The Giants scored 11 runs in 4 games (three runs being unearned) off of Hudson, Lowe twice (who shut you down both times), and Hanson. I'm a Braves fan, but Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt, with the way they are pitching right now are just night and day compared to our 'big three'.. so yeah. Be happy to just get a Game 5.
Ehh, I'm thinking Phillies in 7 just cause of how ludicrous both Philadelphia and SF's pitching has been. Now of course if we for whatever dumb reason trot Zito and Guillen out at all, that very well could change.
How much funner is this series going to be
Well if you want to do that, you have Oswalt whose career has been mediocre, and I can't find career vs giants for Hammels, so here is this years. I didn't post Halliday as I don't think the Giants have faced him before.
Oswalt

I can easily see this series going the distance if the Phils batters decide not to do anything, as they are wont to do. Expect one of the games in the series to be a home run fest and completely throw everyone off, though - think like 8-5 final score. That'll be with Joe Bland on the mount in Game 4.
You mean anything can happen in a one game sample size? Shocking. I never said he couldn't turn it around, just that it's a bad match-up for Wilson. Kei Igawa could come up and throw a shutout, it's baseball. It shouldn't stop anyone from trying to analyze past results.
And I mean, that's 4.56 ERA for Lee against the Rays, and he had a 25:2 K/BB ratio. Didn't exactly get lit up.
Jesus christ your retarded. That's exactly what I said. He's dreaming cause he's on a team in the playoffs and that can hit. And then you got all butt hurt and said we only won through conrad, even though your team was shut down by the Reds despite all 3 games in hitter paradises.
Uh, when I dream/day dream it's usually about stuff that isn't REAL. You don't usually dream reality dumb fuck.
