Wow congrats Ranger fans! I guess your first playoff success in HISTORY combined with Dallas' playoff win last year for the first time in 13 years means you guys are on what we call a "roll"? I cant wait for that fact to be ignored and all the monday morning Rangers fans come in, maxed out of Ranger elitism as if they have been good like.....ever lol.

Its a Texas team, its an inevitability.

Weak shit? Classic response? Do you have A problem with facts? We aren't talking basketball and lakers celtics, MLB has had a history of losing viewers in the championships. It's no wonder people can name more superbowl winners over the last decade than world series winners offhand. Phillies rays got shit ratings. The fucking white socks Astros a few years back drew more viewers. This isn't weak shit, it's the way it is. This series will have a lower rating than it would have gotten by probably 5+million viewers, and baseball doesn't need that. People love to watch the Yankees lose, they bring the viewers. If this is a giants rangers series, I mean, lol who is going to bother watching. Phils don't even draw the fans.

Phils/Rangers, you get 3m+ viewers/game for the series just from Philly alone. Rangers/Giants, maybe a mil total... i know i'll be watching flyers/eagles games outside of the games Lee pitchers.

You say that but phils were a part of one of the least watched series in the last 20 years (08'). So no, you don't get extra viewers just for Phil. I would think that a lee/Halliday matchup would bring in more viewers if marketed right.

Yeah baseball sure is fucked having one-half of the World Series played in the 4th biggest market in the U.S.

And using the steroid argument against ARod is stupid. Everyone's favorite team had dozens of users in over the last 25 or so years. Besides, there are plenty of other valid reasons to hate ARod.

I don't care if it's 4th biggest or not.. it's proven fact that the Yankees, whether you love 'em or hate 'em, bring in the ratings. Sucks shit, but it's true. I mean.. the Cliff Lee vs Yankees playoff game in uh..game3? I think it got lower ratings than a Jacksonville/Tenneseee blowout on MNF.. now imagine it without the Yankees.

So any time a New York team isn't in the World Series, it's a loss for the sport? Maybe technically speaking, but Dallas/Ft. Worth is hardly worth all the gloom and doom in this thread. Even San Francisco isn't that much of a smaller market than Philadelphia. Now you can argue that Rangers and Giants fans aren't as avid as their Yankee and Phillie counterparts, sure, but it's not like the World Series is going to be Tampa against Cincinnati either.

Congrats to the Rangers, you guys played a hell of a series and really look the the best team right now.

As for ratings, frankly I hope the ratings tank so maybe Fox will drop it, and we can finally do away with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver and the super late start times.

people were giving Phils fans a hard time for signs, so The Good Phight (or Fightins) had the idea to come up with new signs. Two suggestions were "Joe Buck is a Whore" and "Repetitive McCarver is Repetitive". Loved it haha

It's been a pretty fucked up season for the Rangers. The manager was outed as a coke-head, mid-season sale/bankruptcy, and they still somehow managed to grab big contract players.

I usually root against any Texas team because of principles, but I have a hard time hating the Rangers this year.

With that said, fuck you Texas. I hope you get destroyed in the World Series. :D

Current MLB on Fox contract runs through 2013 season. Maybe Troy Aikman will lose his concussion-riddled mind one day and just take Joe Buck out. On the flip side, I've enjoyed Ernie Johnson calling the games on TBS.

Eh who cares what the ratings are, it's good for baseball not to have the same teams in the World Series every year. Hell this will be the first time since 2006 an AL east team isn't in it. Of course I want the Yankees to be there, but this isn't exactly the end of the world. Football is the ratings king, we know this, move on.

I understand wanting ratings and viewers and all that jazz but the Yankees couldn't get it done. You guys make it sound like the Yankees should get an automatic pass to the world series every year whether they earn it or not because it'll produce better ratings. Is the sport about ratings or the collective talent/skill of the teams? Why don't we just fix the World Series to be Yankees/Phillies every year so everyone can stop bitching about ratings. I don't have anything against the Yankees or ARod. He was a beast for us and underappreciated by several fans across the sport. Just wish people would stop wanting them to be carried to the World Series year after year on a silver platter. Whether for ratings or preference or whatever. Their bats got cold at the wrong time. Part of the game.

That aside, this is a huge victory for Texas/DFW area. The Rangers have grealty exceeded all expectations. Hope they can win their 1st World Series appearance because it's so hard to return and they may not get this chance again for another 49 years. GO RANGERS!

Edit: Wasn't directed at you Ceph. It just took me 30 minutes to type it because I kept getting distracted. About to get out in this Arlington traffic. FML.

Obviously the Yankees are a more mainstream and popularized team. But SF/California is a pretty big baseball market considering how many teams california has, so if the Giants make it, it won't be terrible. The Rangers are going to also get looked at by people all around the country now and so they'll probably pick up more fans in the process.

Switching topics, I've read and heard from several places the Yanks are expected to go hard after Lee, and consider Zack Greinke. Now that's ridiculous for two reasons: First the guy has already compiled a list of places where he absolutely does not want to go, New York being right at the top. Secondly with his history and the fact that he doesn't even want to play here, why would you want to give him any consideration is beyond me.
