Fans' treatment of Cliff Lee's wife at Yankee Stadium might not help recruitment of one of the game's top left-handed pitchers.
During the AL Championship Series games in New York between the Yankees and Rangers, fans were extremely rude to Kristen Lee, spitting and throwing beer in her direction and shouting obscenities, according to USA Today.
Lee starts Game 1 of the World Series against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday after helping Texas beat New York in the ALCS in six games. But there has been widespread speculation that the Yankees will make a serious run at signing Lee when he becomes a free agent after the season.
The reported incidents could not have helped that cause.
"The fans did not do good things in my heart," Kristen Lee said, according to the newspaper. "When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it's hard not to take it personal."
Kristen Lee sat in the visiting family section, according to USA Today.
What could counter-balance Kristen Lee's bad experience is her close relationship with CC Sabathia's wife, Amber. They have been close since Sabathia and Cliff Lee played together in Cleveland.
Cliff Lee and Sabathia are friends as well. The Sabathias and Lees already were discussing where the Lees should live when it appeared as if the Yankees were going to make a trade for Lee in July.
The Yankees are expected to make Lee their No. 1 free agent target. He will likely receive a deal in the five-to-seven year range at $100 million to $150 million. It also could be Lee's final major contract; he turns 33 during next season.

NONE AT ALL
um, at least we don't puke on people?
I wanna punch that guy in the face but I still laugh every time I see that .gif.
Eh, I've read accounts that his wife and family want to come back to Philadelphia too. I honestly think he never wanted to test FA after playing here. I really only see three destinations for him - NYY, Phillies, and the Rangers if they win the WS.
Hey "Why are you gay" is not homophobic we just want to learn about your sexuality
Not gonna happen -- he may love the city, but we have much bigger concerns right now than getting top-tier starting pitching. Here's what I'd like to see happen in Philly:
- Platoon Ibañez with Francisco, shitty contracts be damned.
- Move Blanton & Victorino, use their salaries to sign Jayson to a 2-3 year contract.
- Put Werth in CF, Domonic Brown in RF.
- Cut/trade/murder Danys Baez & JC Romero, pick some some reliable relief arms for cheap (including some LHPs...our entire pitching staff had 3 lefties total)
- Pick up a decent #4/5 starter, or bring up Worley/Zagurski. Kendrick has some flashes of brilliance, no need to drop him just yet.
Of course, I doubt much or any of this is bound to happen, but we have way better places to spend our money than on getting Cliff Lee back.
Wasn't Jeter getting about 18 million a year during his prime?
Edit: those were the guys who interfered with Cruz right? Is that huge fat guy shooting f-bombs too lol
Cliff lee going to the Reds after they drop Arroyo's awful contract.
All the experts thought K-ROLD was going to boston, NY, philly, etc and the Reds got em. It can happen.
Find me a high-priced FA that wasn't linked to the Yankees, Red Sox, or Philly at some point. It's a load of shit.

Even if Cliff Lee does win the world series with the Rangers, his best bet to add more rings on his fingers is to sign with the Yankees. As hard as it is to repeat in sports, I think baseball has the highest precentage of repeat champions. Yankees are a threat to go to the world series every year. So if it's purely about rings, he should sign with the Yankees. If it's about location/loyalty, he should sign with the Rangers if they do in fact Beyonce him and put a ring on it. I honestly don't see him going anywhere else other than those 2 places. I think the money will be close enough to be a wash between the 2.
