Liriano came over from a silly one sided trade with the World Champion Giants. Pavano is another arm that wasn't home grown. The rest... are lob shit in there and hope for the best kind of pitchers.

    NO WALKS!

edit: About Morneau, his injuries in the past two years were unfortunate. It's hard to blame him for stress fractures in his back in '09 and a concussion in '10. The Twins did pretty damn well without him.

It's the pitching that is killing this team when it matters.

You would have to think that considering once the Lee deal was made, profits soared: he helped break attendance records, meaning more parking, concessions, merch, etc., there would be quite a bit available.

When the Rangers made the playoffs before, everyone kind of knew we didn't have much of a prayer, but when Lee got here we knew for once we had a shot and that drove people out to the Ballpark like never before.

Add on to that the ridiculous amount of merchandise sold over the playoffs (even local stores couldn't keep Ranger gear on the shelves), you would have to think Greenburg and Ryan could justify loosing their wallets a bit more from an investment standpoint.

I'm hoping we can stay within $5 million of the Yanks. Considering there is no state tax and it is cheaper to live here, that might be enough of a discount for Lee to consider taking.
The thing is I don't know if they're willing to commit a quarter of their payroll (assuming they boost it from 55m to 90-100ish) for Lee? Guys like Andrus, Young, Hamilton, Feliz etc aren't going to be cheap forever. They're going to get arbitration raises and then either need to be locked up for big money or hit FA. That huge TV deal they got is spread out over 20 years, they have to plan for the future too.

I'm sure Greenberg's shots at Yankee fans were inspired by trying to keep Lee in Texas. But if I were him I wouldn't underestimate how much Cashman covets him, and I wouldn't give him any ammunition to use when he asks the Steinbrenners for the money it'll take.

It's awesome that MLB Network is showing the entire Giants ceremony. It's a great event.

Personally, this was the first WS i've watched in it's entirety since "02, but i do agree with some of the comments at the bottom.

I can't stand Tim McCarver. Watching the WS marathon on Classic made me appreciate how much better the games were called in the 80's by Al Michaels.

At least they beat out Monday Night Football?

Unfortunately the WS this year lacked any real drama and was fairly one-sided. And when comparing to a previous series that involved the Yankees it just isn't going to stack up.

So are you going to use a different Yankee as your avatar next year or have Jeter in a different teams jersey?

Only way Jeter is not with the Yankee's next year is if they disrespect him with a stupid contract or he retires.

I'm actually an A-rod guy but I loved the back-turned avatar. If Jeter gets 6 years I will totally pick someone else though

Ok to talk about off-season stuff here too? If not delete it >.>

but looks like Beltre does not want to stay in boston, he declined a 10m option to stay with the red sox next year.

I'll make a offseason thread once hot stove season kicks in during December, not much going to happen until then so just post w/e here.

Beltre was never going to accept that option after the year he had, he's going to make 15m+/year easy on the open market.

He was going to decline that anyway. With the year he just had there's a solid chance he can get more money, possibly even in Boston. Also, somethingsomething Scott Boras

I've been into Arod since I was little and he was on the mariners. I've never really liked jeter because he's not a great shortstop. Always felt he was overhyped. I give him credit and as a yankee fan I heart him, but everyone seems to make him out to be this godlike player when he isn't.

I miss little arod. He's big and scary now. Sat 2rows behind yankee batter box one year and my only thought was, if I saw him in a dark alley I'd shit myself.

This isn't really the Cinderella story you think it is. Actually, it's a pretty fucking hilarious that the Yankees get shitted on for using money that they DO have, while Texas spends what they don't.

The trick is to spend money that you have, but just come in 2nd or 3rd for total payroll. Then no one really cares.

When I worked at NFL Films I met Takeo Spikes a few times and he's by far the scariest person I've ever seen up close in my life.
