Yeah, the thing is though, I'm not sure how much money is there. Greenburg has mentioned on a couple different occasions that he has a "Cliff Lee fund", but hasn't shown his hand on how much that is. You would have to think that considering once the Lee deal was made, profits soared: he helped break attendance records, meaning more parking, concessions, merch, etc., there would be quite a bit available.
When the Rangers made the playoffs before, everyone kind of knew we didn't have much of a prayer, but when Lee got here we knew for once we had a shot and that drove people out to the Ballpark like never before.
Add on to that the ridiculous amount of merchandise sold over the playoffs (even local stores couldn't keep Ranger gear on the shelves), you would have to think Greenburg and Ryan could justify loosing their wallets a bit more from an investment standpoint.
I'm hoping we can stay within $5 million of the Yanks. Considering there is no state tax and it is cheaper to live here, that might be enough of a discount for Lee to consider taking.
