He's probably going to get "overpaid" but i meant something like 5-7 a year would probably piss him off enough to retire or go somewhere else. I can see him bouncing back a bit next year, 280-290 avg, but he needs to drop out of the leadoff spot. It's just difficult to gauge the worth of the face of your franchise. In the end he's probably going to get 3-4 yrs at somewhere in the 15m a year range.

Do the Yankees ever throw out an estimated 'cap' to their spending?

Their budget has been steadily in the 205-220 million range for the last few years. They usually set a soft cap of around 200 in the off-season to leave leeway so they can take on salary dumps at the trade deadline to fill holes (like they did this year with Wood and Berkman)

If you're talking about an actual cap though, as in "how much could the Yankees spend and still turn a profit" the answer is likely an insane number. Coming off a championship, a new stadium that they own (the old Yankee Stadium was leased from the city, this one is paid for in tax dollars and sweet-deal bonds yay!) the success of the YES network, I've heard industry people say they could spend 300+ million and still turn a profit. Clearly the luxury tax did nothing to curb their advantage, it'll be interesting too see what happens in the next round of CBA negotiations.

I was wondering more about the former. I know the Twins threw out an estimate about how much they wanted to spend. That was around 100 mil, with a bit of leeway.

When is the next CBA going to be debated?

I was surprised they picked up Kubel's option, he stinks. The Twins usually have a good farm system, they don't have any speedy OF types to try out?

The current CBA expires next December, so it'll be a big topic after next year's world series. If the Yankees or Red Sox win next year prepare for a shitstorm

A few days late but: Lee seems to really really enjoy beating the Yankees. Sure, they'll throw loads of cash at the guy, but if I were him I'd be insulted that CC is making more money than I. We all know who'd be the ace of the team and who'd be getting paid like it.

Sparky Anderson just passed away according to ESPN. Sad day for baseball. One of the greatest managers of our time.

Yeah, I know, the Expos had such a great run while under MLB ownership.

In other news, Wash has been extended for two more cocaine-fueled years.

Stiker did you go to the celebration they had at the Ballpark yesterday? Josh Hamilton spoke last and was like "I recently talked to a member of the Yankees and he was saying how Texas fans jumped on the bandwagon. I told him look, regardless, you better get use to it because you're going to see us year after year."

That FOX Sports reporter who does the Stars games is the worse reporter I've ever seen. I always thought that during the intermissions of the Stars games. Seeing/hearing him in person confirmed it and made me want to beat him with a bat.

Sox picked up Ortiz's $12.5m option for next season. Incoming shit storm when he has a horrible April again.

Brian Wilson was on Jay Leno's show last night. First time I've watched Leno without barfing, really. Wilson was hysterical as always.

I'm not too surprised that they picked up Kubel, I think they'll need him this year. We have one OF prospect that may get some time in MLB this year in Ben Revere. He's fast, hits for average, but has little power. Most comparisons seem to be with Juan Pierre and Kenny Lofton.

I think we have better prospects, especially Aaron Hicks, but he won't make it to MLB this year.

I'm curious if we'll try to sign Thome again now. I hope so, he was great this year for the money.
