Miller and Morgan are meh for me, Morgan usually talks out of his ass, and Miller isn't any better with his analysis. If I was to choose between the two, it would definitely be for Miller, at least the guy can do play by play if he just sticks with it. Amazing homer by Heyward today, I was really impressed with his bat speed, his stance and swing remind me of Derrek Lee in a way.
Probably already been mentioned, but I'm too lazy to search through the last few pages. Beckett signed a 4-yr $68mil extension with Boston today. In related news, most Bostonians looked around with blank faces this afternoon muttering, "So... Jason Bay... uh... what?"
I was going to post that, but I decided to see if a non-Sox fan would comment on it first
It was a pretty amazing play to see, Hawk went nuts of course
Mark is a great player all-around, he'll never win a CYA but he's done pretty much everything else outside 300GW
edit: Just noticed that Chris Singleton was doing the color in the ESPN broadcast. He used to be our radio color guy on 670 the score with Ed Farmer
So much "How the fuck?" in that play. First him kicking it, then not destroying his balls doing the flip, and the first baseman bare-handing it with authority.
Anyone want to make me a sweetass Mariners avatar or sig? I feel like I need to fully represent, since now that the season has started I am gonna be trollin you all hardcore while the M's win 90+ games and Felix wins the Cy Young.
This video got removed, but it's worth hunting down and watching again. Game highlights can be found here: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=505...goryid=2521705
Worth the watch.
MLB 10 Online Roster updated... No David Herndon but they added Kyle Kendrick.
Didn't see Heyward on the roster for you Braves fans.
I was always puzzled by the decision to not resign Bay, especially when there were rumors that the Sox were in the bidding for Holliday as well. I understand the organizational shift to pitching and defense, and I understand that Bay wasn't exactly Willie Mays in the outfield, but wouldn't his offensive prowess make up for what he lacks defensively?
I'm ok with the extension though, next years money =/= this year's roster so the resigning of Beckett has nothing to do with not signing Bay.
Didn't he just want more money even though they made him a pretty good offer?
I'm sure they would have signed Beckett's extension much earlier, but by waiting until after the season starts they avoid having to factor his salary into their payroll for luxury tax purposes. So they saved some cash that way. I'd be willing to bet they had the extension agreed upon months ago, well before the Bay decision had been made. Theo loves bullshit like that.
Opening day aside, I'd be worried about the Sox lineup. Pedroia, Youk and Martinez are the only sure things. If Ortiz hits like 2004 Ortiz, they'll be fine. If not, you're relying on guys who are old and/or strike out a lot. Also Drew and Ellsbury were really inconsistent at times last year, they need to perform better year-round and not go into their annual summer slump. Of course, like I said, it all hinges on Ortiz imo. If he's a beast he makes the whole lineup better. If he doesn't perform and teams challenge him and win, there's gonna be problems.
If I recall, didnt they offer Bay two separate contracts that he turned down?
Yeah, the Sox offered him 2 different deals which according to sources were very similar. The Sox didn't want to offer him a 5th year and Bay was sticking with getting it (obviously). Theo & co. have shown in the past they wouldn't budge in amount of years if they felt it wouldn't be in their best interests based on age/health/value etc.
In all honesty, Beckett's signing for more money had nothing to do with Bay, considering the money was on the table the entire time.
