Yeah, let's just ignore the fact that Santana would have cost valuable prospects and would have had to be signed to a longer contract than Burnett was. I give up.

Santana signed a 6 year contract, Burnett signed a 5 year. They will be off the books the same year.

Santana is a better pitcher than Burnett.

I know what you're saying in terms of prospects, it would be immensely difficult to let go off valuable young talent that is cost controlled, but that was the original argument. Cabrera is a wash, Hughes is a wait and see, but as of right now, the trade back then makes more and more sense as time goes on.

Now, let's remove the entire basis of the argument which was the prospects to form a new math problem. And if you're keeping score, it was never Santana and maybe Burnett, it was Sabathia and Santana.

The yankees made it clear they were not going to trade 4 high level prospects + sign Santana to a huge contract, knowing that if they wait one god damn year, they can keep the prospects, get CC and make a run at Burnett to boot. So yes, in the yankee's minds Prospects + CC + Burnett > CC & Santana. And guess whatwith the exception of 08 when the Rays had that cindarella season and the Yankee's missed the playoffs by 6 games. It's doubtful that Santana alone would have been a 6 game (6.5 if the yankee's were on the wrong end of tiebreakers) and made the playoffs.

At this point, i'm done feeding the troll here, as everyone else is. I'm going back to watching my Giants do it's early season domination of the NL Central and East punching bags.

Do you know what you're talking about at all? The Yankees go out every year looking to win a world series (as should be the focus of every team). You figure they're ok with waiting "one god damn year" so they can keep the prospects and get CC and Burnett, ok I get that.

You're right on the money here. This applies to prospects more so than proven players.

You're wrong here. The Rays did go from 96 losses in '07 to 97 wins in 08 (101 game differential!), and an off year last year, but they will (read should) do well this year. They have a strong core of young cost controlled talent with very good starting pitching and they're constantly being referred to as a strong talent in the AL by many experts. Wait and see.

Me. DeRosa and Huff aren't that bad of players. I figure the A's would fall off and Atlanta would need time to mesh, but yeah. Incoming more games where Hanson and Jurrjens (later on) will give up 0-2 runs and still get L's.

Basically, Atlanta would be 1-6 right now if it weren't for Prado, Heyward, and some of McCann. Chipper too with that go ahead homer he had in the second win against the Cubs. Outside of that, Chipper's been hurt as usual, Melky's been terrible, McLouth has been terrible, Glaus has been terrible (in clutch spots), and Escobar just hasn't hit with RISP as well as he did last year.

The pitching staff outside of Jurrjens against SD on Monday has been fairly solid.. just the offense is dreadful.

Of course as soon as I say that, McCann comes through with a double.
