I'm not entirely sure what your dad is talking about. First off, his contract for this year is $12m total, which they obviously owe nearly all of since we're only a couple weeks into the season. 2011 is a club option, and there is no buyout on that contract. Second, baseball has guaranteed contracts. If a team cuts somebody, they owe just as much as if they keep him unless otherwise specifically stated in the contract, which isn't the case in Ortiz's case as far as I know. The money they would owe on a trade is entirely dependent on the deal that would be made. Surely they would end up covering at least part of the money, but the team taking him would take on some of the burden of paying his contract.
I agree entirely that Ortiz sucks dick... like a man dick. The Sox bench is decent enough to fill in the gaps with Hermida and Lowell when the outfield is actually healthy. As bad as their offense has looked, they have the 26th worst team ERA in baseball. They are something like 11th in the AL in fielding percent. Realistically, they simply need to start playing defense the way they are capable of, and pitch up to expectations. I'd like to see Matsuzaka given the 4th/5th spot over Buccholz right now, but that probably isn't likely. Lester has never been good in April, so I'm expecting him to come around.
As for Gonzalez, if that move happens I wouldn't expect it any earlier than the deadline. Jed Hoyer is a new GM in SD after leaving the Sox organization. He can't step in and trade their franchise player in the first month, especially when Gonzalez is pretty much the only reason to ever watch a Padres game. The other reason is that Gonzalez is still under contract through next year for less than $10m total. If any team is to trade for him this season, especially before the deadline, that team is going to have to give up an arm and a leg. The longer teams wait to make that deal, the lower the price for Gonzalez could potentially get, although it's going to be a huge amount of talent going to SD regardless. It's no secret the Sox are interested in him, but I would be shocked if any trade is made any time soon.
I'm pretty sure you can watch the Phillies/Braves game on ESPN3 (online) if you're out of the market.
Do you have stream torrent? You could just go the myp2p route. I can give you links if you'd like.
Is that the thing posted a few pages back? I didn't bother with it but i'd love it now if you can.
What a catch by the Flyin' Hawaiian.
Also, it's on Peachtree TV for me. ESPN's blacked out in my area. ESPN3 online should work. I usually watch ESPN broadcast there when it's blacked out here.
Shane Victorino with felony robbery against Troy Glaus.

That's where you can find some streams of various baseball games. Always been very reliable for me. You'll need this to play the stream:

It's blacked out in New Jersey. At least, it's blacked out in my part of it.
Hrm. That's weird. I hate the way blackouts work for tv programming.
Also, incoming no hitter.
Yeah, I get it on ESPN here, shame I'm going to leave and miss Halladay's perfecto
Thanks Trich, this is pretty decent quality. Also, typical no hits yet for Atl.
No problem. Larry can eat a hot bowl of dicks.
A shame Hudson has no offense to combat Halladay here.
It's crazy how similar Hudson's numbers are to Halladay's over their careers.
Since April 10th he's hitting .132 with 1 RBI, and that's our 2-hole hitter. He hasn't "cooled down", he's the same piece of shit he was all of last year who just happened to have a hot week to start the season. I don't buy for one minute that a couple of bone spurs in his elbow made him one of the worst shortstops in all of baseball production-wise last season. He just fucking sucks.
Roy Halladay gets into trouble just so he can get out of it.
Yeah.. that was a great double play. Yunel hit it right on the screws and it just glanced off the mound. A shame Heyward couldn't get a good pitch to knock out when runners were on 1st and 2nd. I have a feeling that's the last chance the Braves will get tonight, but I'll be hopefulShould be able to get the top of the lineup up in the 9th though.Maybe Halladay won't be there.
Watching the stream, it looked like that ball got through and i jumped up all excited for nothing. Also Venters is just too damn good for a 30th round draft pick, wtf.
