I forgot the reasoning behind sentries being so great, but Day[9] was mentioning the additional gas that you have normally on toss in the beginning is good to use on them until you can efficiently use them on other things. I think he meant Colussi/Immortals or something?

Like others have said, cannons, a decent amount of units, sentries, and a relatively fast expand may work well in your favor against zerg. Depends on the map, too. Somewhere like scrap station is pretty easy to defend your natural, as long as you know what's going on over at the rocks, and keep a few cannons in your mineral line once you know mutas should be coming.

2 base protoss will easily have enough resources to smash a 2 base zerg almost all the time. I hate zvp on scrap station because of this.

Or maybe I just suck :D

Sentries help block off units from surrounds vs zerg, exploit the range weakness of roaches to protect colossi. Guardian shield early on helps mitigate marine damage. 5 damage down to 3. Same goes with muta damage. Mitigates the bounce damage (goes 7 > 1 > 0 then 8 > 2 > 0 @ level 1 air damage upgrade)

Thats my problem. They arent cheap and i lose out in tech if i get too many. But too few and i lose the match. I also find it hard to scout zergs after my initial probe scout because of cheap speedy lings and queens. I either need an observer, whichi s tech i cant get while massing stalkers, or i get it and see an army coming i cant stop cause i teched too fast.

Incase you cant tell i have trouble with zerg lol. And now im working late so ill upload replay whenever i can.

Edit:you guys post good tips while im writing this lol

You can cut Stalkers if you want, Sentry Zealot is probably better if you can use it right. Sentries are probably the scariest unit in the early/mid game. Early game they can FF their ramp and just keep you from doing any all in or timing attack, and mid game FFing Marauder forces apart is just way powerful. We even saw some cute FF use out of Huk in the EG Masters Cup yesterday where he would walk into his opponents base and FF the ramp so that no reinforcements could come in.

Observers are great versus zerg, because they usually don't get detection unless prompted to. (Like if they see a threat of incoming banshees or DT's) Morphing an overseer costs 100 gas, and zerg is gas starved enough as it is, and spore crawlers are somewhat situational.

As a Zerg; what are some options with larvae injecting with queens? Right now Im just hotkeying all my hatches in one group and splitting up my queens individually. Any other viable options?

I set all my hatch as 5 and all my queen as 4, and just do hit 4-v-click-click-click-click. There's gotta be a better way to do it not involving clicking though. I learned you can click on the hatchery to vomit larvae on the minimap, so you can do 4-v-click from anywhere, on any hatch

I coulda sworn they took that out jotaru, that you had to click on the actual hatch on the map and not the mini-map, guess i could be wrong

Hotkey each queen is fine, your setup sounds fine.

I put them all on one hotkey and v-click on the minimap. I also have it macro'd to one of the zoom buttons on my mouse so don't listen to me.

I've seen this method mentioned by a few people but this is only efficient if all your queens are vomiting in sync, which relies on you missing cycles, otherwise you're wasting clicks because you're performing it for each queen/hatch whether or not it has the energy. The whole idea of hotkeying individual queens is to know the energy of the queens and to be able to check their energy at any given time to get an idea of whether the larva is soon, later, or now.

I really don't think delaying a new hatchery's first injection by a few seconds is a big enough detriment to completely change your hotkey layout if you're already comfortable with having all your queens on one key. Keeping an appropriate rhythm on 2 bases isn't particularly hard regardless of synchronization and by the time you get to 3+ hatches you'd need to be making nothing but lings and drones to even use all of your larvae.

For myself especially, delaying an injection or two to keep my queens synchronized is usually beneficial in the long run. Personally, I can't keep up with 4+ queens on different timers while microing an army regardless of my hotkeys, but if I just have to go back to them every ~35 seconds and inject all of my hatcheries at once I can spend a lot more time focusing on other things.

In the end it definitely comes down to personal preference, but queens on individual hotkeys just makes me feel like I have too much to think about.

I dunno, if you don't have queens on individual keys or hatches on individual keys, one or the other, how do you get back to your base. For me, if I want to do something particularly with hatch at my expo I go to that hatches queen for example and click the hatch. Otherwise if you are grouping both hatches and queens you're going to have to click that minimap to get to those spots?

Yeah, generally I just click the minimap where I want to be in a situation like that. If there's actually something happening there (building/queen completing, an attack, etc) and I'm reacting to it, spacebar almost always gets the job done. If I'm just building something or making units out of a specific hatchery, well... I'm certainly not at the level where doing so half a second faster would ever have a noticeable effect. Little things like that are what help really really good players make that jump to being top players but for me (and for a majority of the posters here, I'm sure) I can't see it ever making a big difference.

The only thing that really irritates me about having all of my hatcheries on one hotkey is that things like upgrades and queens tend to all queue up at a single hatch. It's not a difficult issue to cope with, but I just don't understand why it doesn't prioritize the inactive ones like every other building in the game.

Yeah Zerg really have it rough with stuff like that, Zerg should have idle creep tumor buttons and stuff like the protoss have for their Warp Gates and shit. It feels like Blizz just didn't have as much thought when making Zerg, as they did with the other races.
