If you're in bronze, it's unlikely that it's the physical, spatial orientation of the keys that slow you down. It's more likely a mental thing. That's not to say you shouldn't go for a setup that works well for you, though, just don't expect massive improvements from a change there.

For the most part, you'll be doing everything via hotkeys. Most mouse action will be on the main field and higher level play you will be clicking the minimap (or hitting space bar in some cases when an alert happens)

Day[9] Daily #252 explains a lot of skills you will end up developing as you get better.

Idk if it was asked in this thread or remember if I asked, but are there any good mice and keyboards for SC? I have a really old 5 button mouse that jumps around sometimes no matter what, and I should probably replace my even older keyboard since the stands are broken and is uncomfortable on my new desk.

I'm still working on getting better at SC, so really just looking for something decent and not too expensive since it's about the extent of my PC gaming right now.

meh, not typing "gg," "bad gg timing" and calling down mule on enemy units are hardly the same thing as what goes on on xbox live

although calling down mule has to be lamest "bm" ever in any competitive game i can remember

More like just straight up talking shit and letting them know they lost than typical BM.

I personally think the Logitech m500 is the best mouse ever and it's usually just $35 on tiger or newegg. The grip and form of the mouse seems to flow perfectly for me. As for keyboards, I got the Logitech S10 combo JUST for the keyboard, and super glued a 1/4 inch plastic on the sides on top because stands are garbage lol. That's around $35 as well, mouse included. I have also been using the same rechargeable batteries on my S10 keyboard for around 3 years and not once has it gotten to the point where my batteries actually died, given the little consumption and huge deplete warnings you get. The S10 wireless mouse, on the other hand, went straight to the trash can since I don't trust wireless mice at all. As long as you get a decent wired mouse for gaming, you should be OK, as long as the feel is right for you.

I went through two S510 keyboards. They are pretty nice, but don't seem to hold up over time. Also, from my experiences, they die within 10 minutes of the battery light going red.

For a cheap keyboard, they are really nice though. The short keystroke is great.

Thanks for the link that video had some good information in it. I think I'm gonna stick with the grid controls they seem easier to remember. By the way i watched the you tube link and did anyone else notice that the dry erase board idea's were baneling gushers, zeratul shake weight, and a kerrigan real doll?

What's wrong with a lot of trash talk? I think its a natural part of competition. This is a competitive game. You are ranked, matches are decided through a (flawed) system which assesses your skill according to your rank. If someone talks a lot of smack put em in their place. If they're better than you then well, maybe they have the right to talk smack.

And more to the point, I don't place nearly as much value in forced manners as in the expression of opinion, especially warranted opinion. Again this is a competitive game and the winner in competitions is ideally supposed to be the better player/team. IdrA's commentary is usually pertinent to that point. Part of it may be venting frustration but the ultimate goal is to discourages cheese strats and to have players actually play better.

Thin skin is definitely a huge problem with this game. I can't count the number of times where I have tried to help a greener player in my team and they react adversely to being told how to play, and we lose because of them. To try reinforce the point that rushing Void Rays/Carriers/some other retarded tech is dumb I usually ask if they see the error of their ways and they will then shift the blame.

I play a lot of random 4v4s because I like the complexity of a larger game and all my friends stopped playing SC2 to play Cata. I've gotten three bronzes on my team with me as plat. We were against four gold. System deemed their side only slightly favored.

Blizzard is behind on realizing the whole "one good player cannot carry anchors against a decent team." Also there are a lot of people in like Bronze 1v1 but get Gold+ in 3v3 or 4v4s probably due to luck and getting carried. 1v1 stats should probably be factored in at some level when determining an individual's contribution to a team. There are a lot of effective tactics with teammates you can't pull off in 1v1s, but the chances are that if you can't carry yourself 1v1 are likely to be unable to carry yourself well in a larger game.

First 5 min in a 4v4 match have pretty much revolved around surviving cannon/6-7-8-9-10 pool/5 min all-out rush in a random team for me. Not to say 4v4 is dull or anything, since I still find it fun when both sides are truly even and a bunch of strangers (no arranged teams on either side).

Best game so far is my team fending off a cannon rush on me only to have our protoss successfully cannon rush the other sides zerg and pulling off a victory. It's like finding a win out of a fail.

Usually dread it hard when I see 2-3 non-zerg on my team vs. 2-4 zerg on their team. You just KNOW a freaking 6 pool is coming en masse.

I'd say all-in and cheese determine 85% of random 4v4s. About 10% are straight up tech battles, and maybe 5% are come-from behind wins when one side cheeses but the people who survive have enough time to tech out of the hole.

The sad thing is that the zerg team would always lose if the T/P teams just zeal/rine rushed. But usually what happens is that ppl get scared and hunker down with defense and then get owned by the banes and run-by.

I pretty much only do random 4v4s and it pisses me off all the cannon rushing or other cheese tactics that happen. I was on the one map with the lava (can't think of the name at the moment) and I was the middle spawn for my team. A guy tried to cannon rush me and couldn't get close enough to my buildings so he basically just built a ton of cannons right outside my area, which was a huge waste since I just went with fliers and never had to go out. Someone on my team took that guy out and he left and we eventually cleared out the cannons, but it's just aggravating that people do that and then their team is down a player and prevents good games.

The thing is, SC(2) is one of the closest things to 'real' competition that video games have. You don't (usually) see tennis pros calling each other skill-less faggots or something to that effect and it's the same in starcraft. You have respect for your opponent. I'm not saying bronzederp1 and bronzederp2 feel this way when they play each other but the mentality/precedent from the upper levels hugely affects how the community thinks.
