lol. Even a moderately well run ladder would be better at predicting the better player overall than a tournament, assuming people are participating. Blizzard's ladder doesn't qualify because there is no real reward to participating, top players get better practice internally and can make more money from tournaments.
All I'm saying is that no tournament format is going to find the best player in the field 90+% of the time (or even a majority), and certainly not without sacrificing watch-ability. Tournaments are for the fans as much as they are for the players, particularly when real money starts getting involved. They shouldn't sacrifice a good viewing experience in the name of consistency and fairness when they can make some simple changes to their system and do a better job at both.
Oh man, "photon cycles" is the perfect map when you're high and playing with friends. It's pretty much snake or worm or whatever that old old microsoft game was, except you're against 15 other people. This map is laugh inducing for reasons unknown to me... maybe it's because you seem to die for the strangest reasons or because someone is out to get you, but damn this shit is amusingly fun.
I've only just gotten into SC2. This was the first time I've watched a tournament for it (and any other game, as it happens) and I loved it.
Does anyone have any good sites that keep track of tournament dates and what's going on in the pro circuit?
http://www.teamliquid.net/
Premier SC2 site. There's a calendar on the right, and they always keep track of notable tournaments under the spotlight section. Definitely the site to bookmark if you want to follow SC2 related happenings. You'll see links to current streamers as well, so you can check out higher level play in first person.

I sometimes use this site as well. It usually updates tournament results on the right side panel. They tend to update the sections below with recent vids of games played in tournaments.
EDIT: damn, beaten.
So with the advantage that MVP had going into the finals what would it have been if MVP had eliminated MMA 2-0 in an earlier series. MVP would start 2-0 so would MMA have to win a best of 5 series (basically go 3-0 right away) to eliminate MVP once and then win the best of 7 series for the second elimination?
I think in the case of extended series they don't do a second elim? But I don't know, either sounds pretty shitty to me lol.
Thanks for the links, guys!
I'm downloading the client now and looking forward to getting into the game. Think I'll roll with Protoss first.
