Obviously you would just get a second layer of scv's to repair the first layer when they get damaged so they can keep repairing the colossus.

Secondly, surrounding a collosus with a bunch of scv mean you have a 900mineral units that is still pretty damn weak to splash damages. It's also precious mineral that you're not collecting while they heal. Obviously, if the planets align and you happen to be fighting with a dying collosus near a CC, then yeah, more power to you, but it's a lot of trouble you're giving yourself for something that take about 8 min to setup, cost a ton, probably wont save your collosus against viking/corruptor, and could easily have been replaced by 2 more collosus (a much more powerful alternative for the same price)
-It can only repair the base hp, which is 200. Thor have 400, by comparison.
-It's -900 minerals? You're only taking the SCVs on the push, and I'm talking sending <10 because you wont be able to surround a full collosus, and you only want to be repairing one. Talking <450 minerals for the 1 minute it takes to push.
-It doesn't cost 8min to set up if you already have the SCVs mining because getting an orbital is worth it.
-The collosus wont fall because they wont, or shouldn't, have more than 6 vikings. If they do then GG to your ground army.

But I've come up with some other reasons why it wouldn't be worth it that haven't been brought up yet: SCV repair rate/cost is actually calculable and it's pretty much hp of unit/time it takes to build. That sucks for collosus because it has low hp(200) and high build time(75).

With collosus having 1 armor upgrade and vikings having 0 weapons, I calculated 6 vikings take ~2.8 seconds to kill a collosus. With 6 SCVs it's 3.8 seconds, with 9 it's 4.8 seconds, etc etc. This is purely by DPS and not by volleys - but I figure it should be accurate enough to show that it's a pretty meager benefit when Thors literally get repaired twice as quickly.

Also, the first SCV you replicate costs 4 food as well. So this orbital idea is getting bogged down further and further it seems

Any ground unit inside the cloud was imune to range attack (not melee/splash). Its main purpose was to make your zergling invincible against most unit since there wasnt that many melee (firebat, zealot, splash dmg from tank/reaver)

It makes all ranged attacks have range 1(ie, melee range)

I meant it's reversed compared to dark swarm from sc1.

Season 4 has started! Any promotions/demotions for you guys?

I'm going to do my 1v1 match (in which I should get a promotion to Silver) later when I've got more time to concentrate because I just know I'll get a Zerg opponent and that's my worst matchup.

I only just started semi playing again after a long break. My micro is what has taken the biggest hit... oddly enough, my macro pretty much recovered after a couple of games to warm back up. I've always been a macro orientated player however...

omg, I just beat a protoss by going muta ling XD mostly mutas, though. I scouted a 2gate robo expand, so I figured quick colossus, which is exactly what he did <_<

So I'm starting to get a better handle on Protoss unites. The only thing I'm having trouble with is countering Zerg. There's so fucking many of them, lol

I love SC2 when we get a new season. Today I got cannon rushed, dt rushed, marine spam, and in one game I had an ally kill all his workers, lift his base off to the middle of nowhere, and leave the game.

use more zealots. it might be hard to notice, but zealots rip the shit out of zerglings, and immortals will ruin roach armies every time. Other then that, just learn what counters what.

Or just make a death ball. Some zealots, stalkers, sentries, and colossus. If they went for heavy muta, throw in a few archons. If they went for heavy roaches, immortals can help, but colossus are generally all around better.

2 new 2v2 maps, 1 new 3v3 map, and no new 4v4 maps, right?
