Yeah, I've never understood why you'd 2gate Stargate in PvP. Maybe you just need to be much better than me!

From what I read, the general idea to hold off a 4gate is getting out sentries to hold the ramp until you can get more units out.
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/view...opic_id=193103 is the info on the build.

I just don't know why you wouldn't go for something like Chargelot/Archon or such with that kind of build.

The fun of micro with Phoenix. I've not had the chance to even try it out yet so it may not even be something I like.
Another build I've seen is DT into Chargelot Archon which does sound more solid, but I go Chargelot/Archon/HT against Terran and Zerg already and would have liked something else to play around with (which isn't my current inability to pull off a 3gate robo well)

So you guys would sooner suggest a Chargelot/Archon mix instead? I'll still try Phoenix just for the hell of it, but in the long run I want to work on something that's stable and actually going to win me a few games.

Chargelot/Archon is pretty difficult to stop I find from experience. If the Terran in particular has a huge army, make sure you have a few HTs around for Storms and WATCH OUT FOR GHOSTS. They can really fuck Archons up.

EDIT: Having a handful of Sentries around for FFs/GS is helpful too.

I just dont see why 2gate stargate would work, even if you have sentries blocking the ramp. Even after you get a few units our of the stargate, you still cant stop the 4gate ground army in front of your door, protoss air is just too weak. This goes for every race you fight, if they go for an early timing attack.

For harass pheonixes rock, but i wouldnt rely on them to stop any early aggression

Phoenixes are pretty good in midgame compositions, maybe even lategame.

Early colossus are completely denied, early immortals are completely negated, and can also lift up stalkers to even numbers a bit.

i was under the assumption that we were talking about early 4 gate pressure. Aint no way a 2gate stargate gonna stop me when i walk up with an ball of lot/sentry/stalker from my 4 gates.

Probably not, I never said it would. I just said that it's a nice compo if you can get out of early game.

I think 3gate robo is the safest opening for PvP because it gives you the ability to ramp block plus detection against DT rush, which are the two most common openings (DT rush being more prevalent in lower leagues) With the increased research time on Blink, you should be able to deny stalkers jumping up the ramp if you are good with forcefield.

Forge fast expand is another option on larger maps but is more vulnerable to blink run through.

Speaking of which though, I recently saw an incredibly powerful Blink play where the guy used Sentry with Hallucinate to Hallucinate a Colossus up the blind side of the P's base so all of the (pretty good number of) Stalkers could Blink right up without worrying about a ramp, and the Colossus ate quite a bit of fire from the defender. Was really impressed.

I know a lot of people hallucinate Phoenix to scout which could do the same thing, but using Collosus is actually a really good idea for diversion fire.

Yeah; my initial response when I saw the protoss blink up with a Colossus at the front was "NO WAY could he have enough gas for Blink and a Colossus with that many Stalkers so early"; turns out I was right, but the sheer fear factor would make most people target it.

Hallucination can be quite disconcerting, not to mention that they fuck up the AI and require additional micro.

So recently while I'm bored I've been recording custom games I play. Every game I will do something cheesy like 4gate/2gateproxy/6pool/proxy5rax etc. 9/10 I will lose but the entire game I will be trash talking "NOOB YOU'RE SO DEAD GETGG'DNOOB" to an obvious trolling extent. So far every single game I've recorded the person has shit talked me after the game with things like "what happened to that 6pool? oh yea you're shit right?" stuff like that.

So when I go to tell them I'm bored and I'm recording my successful troll they go into retard mode.

You can really tell the bad players from the good players by doing this. I find it neat. Might actually do a survey on sc2 about this.

Leenock advances with MMA out of the group of death. Nestea surprisingly went 0-2 and drops to Code A.

Worst day to be available ever. Paper of doom, I probably won't be on tonight unless I'm just trying to squeeze in a quick mental break.

Eating and then will be available. Just woke up. @_@

EDIT: Guy lifts his SCVs into the CC, floats over to my base (zerg), and proceeds to try and harass me with them? I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
