I think this speaks louder than you give it credit for.

Whatever they're being paid playing BW is less than they'd make playing SC2. I think that's a fact, but I'm not going to pretend like I know the reality of it. Afaik, huk and idra have "a big" salary - a salary that'd surprise most people is what incontrol, huk, or idra said. If the argument is that a flash/jd/bisu wont switch because they're making bank in BW.. then either that argument is incomplete, you need a new argument, or the argument that they would make that much more in SC2 is correct and they should be switching soon.

And personally, I really hope our SC2 players of today don't get obliterated by new powerhouses. I think it would be hard to keep watching starcraft when there are new names to follow every month and favorites like idra, huk, hero, etc are literally off the competitive map. So, I hope that the superstars take time in switching and the relative no-names with awesome skill don't overshadow everyone, or if they do I hope there aren't many lol

Garfield has said EG is easily the most accomplished foreign SC2 team in terms of corporate ability and marketing. The difference between EG and the rest of the foreign teams is oceans apart in that regard. They can easily fund salaries matching top flight BW.

If Flash wanted to make bank, I guarantee you EG can give him the best salary in pro-Starcraft easily, upfront. I mean if he demands 7 figures no, but he can easily get more than he's making now I believe.

And IdrA and HuK most likely make a lot more than the majority of BW pros. Nazgul said the offer HuK got from EG to move from Liquid was "life-changing"

I think a lot of it has to do with the preference for SC1 still in Korea.

As mentioned earlier, I think the fact that there is a lot fewer mechanical aspects to the game will lessen the rape factor.

That's not to say they won't be good, they will, but a lot of the mechanical things that make them so good like queuing units from individual buildings, setting workers to gather 1 by 1, compensating for bad pathing, are gone.

IdrA was so dominant at the start of SC2 compared to other foreigners because he had such good mechanics compared to everyone else. But that pure mechanical only took him so far. Other foreigners caught up, and I think the same will happen relative to Korea.

HuK's really bad against EU PvP. He's really good against Korean PvP. I think he could have taken Hero, so in retrospect he got the worst possible draw and still went 3-2. Hardly a walkover when you consider the relative success of HuK and Hasu over the entire year. But mouz got really salty so we stopped.

July isn't practicing much because it's his last year before he goes into the army. He wanted to win a GSL before then but it's highly unlikely. Poor July.

Regarding the salaries of EG's ace players, in Incontrol's recent blog post "A Decent Proposal", he says:
Player agents. At this time we have players negotiation six figure salaries for themselves and of course that is the extreme case but it will become more and more common..
That's as good as saying "Huk makes six figures," imo. Idra probably makes less than Huk because Idra didn't have to be lured from another team, but I doubt the gap is very large.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Huk is at at least $100K salary. But that is their highest salary on the most well sponsored team in the scene. They are going to need some pretty serious influx of capital to throw an additional $100k plus at a player they aren't even sure will transition well (one of the mid to top-tier BW pros), and even more if they are going for the truly top talents.

All the teams do, which is depressing It would be nice if all the teams made salaries public.

They talked about it at some point on state of the game. None of the players said they would mind if it was universal, but no team wants to be the first one to put that kind of information out there it seems.

This is one of the problems of not having a good player/team association coordinating this kind of thing. Hopefully we see something like that pop up next year.

Yeah the problems is there is no league to regulate it like Kespa in Korea.

But even with a league, some teams would be flat out embarrassed with how little they pay their aces. And I don't know how they could fix that. Unlike Korea where every team draws a lot of sponsors and attention because of how ubiquitous Starcraft is, foreign teams don't have very good corporate sides (with the exception of EG). eSports has to get a lot bigger in order for gaming companies, and non-gaming businesses, to start investing in more Starcraft teams for teams to get the spending money for bigger contracts and more players.

And unfortunately, there's no alternate income stream in eSports besides sponsorships. It's not like regular sports leagues where the teams would get to sell tickets to their events and market themselves for direct profit.

    WCG's background. They're taking a break for off-stage games.

the "SC2 off stage" stream didn't have vaseline smeared on it like the main stages.

They're rebroadcasting the main stage to OnGameNet TV stations, so they're resizing it to 4:3 and reducing quality to not make Brood War look bad!
