Can't wait for this game thinking of buying a new machine altogether for this and FFXIV. The Beta seemed kind of rough for Terran, but i probably just sucked protoss and zerg just beat me down like i stole something. When i did protoss/zerg i had a chance but the moment i choose human i lost. Heard in LA and NYC a few people already started camping for this game which is insane.

About terran, they are probably the hardest to learn in SC2. You need to know exactly what you're doing to not get rapped. Once you get familiar with them, they probably because the easiest one to manage due to how powerful certain combo are while requiring a minimal amount of microing.

I like RTS games and I like Blizzard games, but I never played Starcraft at all. To buy or not to buy? Would it keep me occupied til Sept 22? Hmm.. Also the thought of a the first non collector's edition of a PC game costing $60 makes me cringe. Someone had to do it first. Figures it would be Activision!

Saying you like RTS games and have never played Starcraft is almost contradictory. If you haven't played Starcraft, you don't know what an RTS is (even if its age is showing now).

Will SC2 keep you occupied til Sep 22 though? I dunno, maybe? Really depends on you. Playtime vs quality is a factor, as the Single player will certainly be entertaining even if it won't take months to beat. As for multiplayer, do you hate losing? That may affect how much you can take out of the online ladder. Even then, the custom map/mod scene could end up enough of a pull on its own to overcome that. The custom mods/maps for SC2 could theoretically add value to the game unseen since the likes of HL.

It certainly is one of few non-collector's-edition games priced at $60 (lol @ it being the first though), but in terms of a development-time-to-cost-ratio or a content-to cost-ratio, it's far cheaper than the majority of games. SC2 has been in development for I think 7 or 8 years now? Maybe longer. Its a bit unfair to judge a game by a company putting that kind of effort into their product with the same standard you use to judge the yearly shovelware. Your entitled to hate Activision though, pretty sure that's what they are for; they are just the big bad guy in the background you can blame any problems on so the main developers get to maintain their positive image. Personally, if I actually didn't like their new pricing scheme, I'd yell at Blizzard, they are more likely to care.

If you have friends who like the game, I'm sure you will have a blast online. Solo..it depend of you. If you played WC3 a lot, you will probably love it.

You should definatly pick up SC2, Its a lot of fun. And you don't have to do ladder grinding. You can play Melee maps without having to worry about having a scared record. Just play the regular maps, LT, Kulas, etc. and you'll get better at no time. It doesn't take long to get good, but it takes a long time to master.

I'll just play around with Single player first to get a feel for the mechanics and stuff, and eventually move onto MP. I've never played too much MP in RTS games, I just love doing stuff in SP. Maybe this is the one that will break that trend for me.

You should pick up the Starcraft Battlechest, its only 20 bucks. Well worth it. Helps get you a good feel of the story, if you're into that
