issues installing drivers for a modem

Ok I've got my new netbook up and running. I installed my dial-up modem (yea lol all you need) just fine, but was having problems connecting with it. Though maybe I had bad drivers, so i uninstalled it. Now trying to set it up again, and no drivers will install. It will start, and the progress bar gets to the end, then i get an error saying the device could not be installed. I've had a couple of error codes come up after this.

Reinstall the drivers for this device (code 18)
or
The device is not configured correctly (code 1)

I think maybe the uninstall did not remove everything so it might be running into issues or something? Not sure how to fix it though.

I know im like 1 of 5 people who still use dial-up for anything, but i think its just a driver issue in general so maybe someone can help?
