im not trying to spend over 800$ and i want to be able to hook up my pc, ps3, etc. and id like the picture to be exceptional

ive been looking at this one --- http://www.amazon.com/LG-HS201-HS201...6515822&sr=1-1

That projector is not bright at all, will you be able to totally black out the room you'll have it in? Even a small amount of ambient light will kill the picture of that thing.

I wouldn't bother with anything less than the $1000 price point. Your not gonna get exceptional, your gonna get something for an office or children watching barney on the wall.

Umm, there's plenty of good projectors for under $1,000.

For DVD resolution, this is a great unit for under $400:

Not only is the projector in the OP not bright, it's dimmer than most televisions. You really are going to have to straight up black out the room if you want to see anything.

Looking at customer feedback most people seem to not notice on account of the supposed wider color response, but I'm also seeing a heavy complaint about blacks being washed out, which tells me the color response isn't actually that good.

If overall image fidelity isn't a concern with you and you just want more screen real estate, then it'll do fine, as will most budget projectors, but many of them will have a hard time living up to even a comparably priced (but smaller screen) TV set.

No. Don't buy a portable projector for home use. (The I linked claimed it's portable, but it's not).

They are underpowered and overpriced. Think of it like a laptop. The smaller it is, the more expensive it gets and weaker it gets.

Something like this Optoma would be a good choice as well. HDMI and native 720p support.

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance ~$656.19

    Or from Newegg:

    Gets a good review from:
