I just love the fact that the "FFXIIs combat was the best in the series" argument(and make no mistake about it, it was) is being countered by "derp derp I play rpgs for the story, the gameplay is mindless! derp". It would seem to me that the gameplay should be the bar for, you know, a good game.

But shit what the fuck do I know, the WKC thread is approaching 100 pages because Leonard is super awesome.

The thing with games is if the story is good enough it can, for some people, justify dealing with bad gameplay mechanics. For others, great gameplay can make up for a shitty story. Again, it all really boils down to personal opinion.

God, SO4's story was so freaking horrible. Perfect example of game-play carrying an RPG the whole way, Kay!

Couldn't agree more. SO4's story was simply unbearable.

You must have because even being 20 levels higher than her Dark Aura and Holyja can decimate you (either of them would be doing enough to kill most of your units, nearly killing your Lv3 Espers and doing huge damage to your main characters)... she spams them.

FF12 had the best battle system and probably the best side events but the story was a little weak. My favorite is 6 because the characters were cool and an evil jester going around setting the world on fire is fucking great. There really isn't much depth to Kefka because all he wants from the first time you see him in the game is to kill people for no reason and it doesn't get any better than that.

Blitzball was only fun for the first hour, after that, every game end 10-0.

Ya I had a lot of trouble with that fight. Amazing game though imo, I loved it.

Throwing this out there, every time you play FFXII, the game is masturbating. The game plays itself. I was in the mine in that one sky city towards the beginning of the game, and I had all my gambits set up, and I fell asleep playing it, my thumb slightly tilted on the stick.

I limped around like that for maybe half an hour or so, and when I woke up I had a little over a 50 chain. It became apparent to me then that I wasn't necessary. The game got along fine without me.

I generally don't use gambits or very many of them anyway as I like playing the game.
Also, no damn way you can solo Mateus with your level 3 Basch using gambits.

So, I fell asleep while playing FF6 holding the turbo button, and I woke up 30 level higher a few hours later.

I sincerely hope it was a joke post, because very few areas in game have monster that spawn automatically. You won't reach #50 chains asleep.

But seriously, what's wrong when your allies rape trash? I can't be the only person who actually had to do something during my battle to survive in multiple encounter (bosses/hunts, summon, high level area). It's not like trash were ever interesting to fight in rpg.

And when it came down to trash mobs, I actually enjoyed running around like a bulldozer, oblitering everything on my way and collecting the reward. It's better than grinding in previous FF.

I must've sucked something fierce then because there was no way I could go to the lower levels of the Pharos of Ridorana and just let the gambits play it out with how many mobs spawned in that area and immediately aggro'd you.

Lhusu Mines, the bridge on the first level spawns skeletons indefinitely.

Using only the mechanics of the game, not a turbo button, I was able to get a substantial chain. Oh, and no, I almost never had to participate in the fight sequences, bosses or otherwise. If you set up the gambits well, almost every fight can usually just be played out by the computer.

And that's all besides the point. I wasn't trying to gain a bunch of levels, I was just tired after work and fell asleep. I didn't set myself up in a position to do that specifically, I just ended up running up against a wall on a bridge that just kept spawning skeletons.

You don't even need a turbo button to do that for FFVI btw, you can just hold the button down.
    Same shit. Who cares?

So, you went to this one area with infinite monster spawning and exploited it, then pretend you accidently fell asleep and had the game play for you?

    Lol.

    All those ON lights.
I wonder if they'd put an ON light there if you couldn't turn them off.

It's kinda like punching yourself in the face and the complaining that the punches hurt.

    Lol.
I wasn't aware of any exploit, or re-spawn rates. I had never played the game before, and right or wrong, I set up my gambits to pretty much play for me. Maybe not the most fun way, but at the time I figured that was the way the game was meant to be played. Truth be told, I fell asleep playing a lot of games in those days.

I once fell asleep playing an NCAA football game, and I got to fourth down on delay of game penalties and turned over the ball, and on the following play the computer threw and interception, which was ran in for a touchdown. Want to tell me I planned that too just so I could tell people on the internet?

Also, others seem to agree that the game was capable of playing itself, so I don't feel like I'm alone.

Regardless, if you really feel that I concocted this story to bash an almost four year old game on the internet, go ahead.

    Edit: Beaten on the comic.
