Although NIN is beaten at very specific things, it's still an extremely versitile job. It's a better jack-of-all trades than RDM ever was imo

for example, with the right equipment and sj, nin can:

Tank almost any HNM effectively
Tank xp level mobs very effectively (although who can't when you have Ni)
Be a competative DD
Solo some pretty impressive stuff

Sure ppl prefer PLD for HNM tanking, because it's easier on the whm, and it's easier to get away with sucking at the job; but a PLD can't run to WG, change sj, some equips then go solo big bomb, or DD in a meripo/einherjar/city dynamis etc.


I love how much NIN changes with various equipment sets and SJs, it practically becomes another job... and no other job can do that.

Be a competative DD compared to other second-string DD jobs.

Sure ppl prefer PLD, DRK, SAM, WAR, and RDM for HNM tanking, because it's easier on the whm and offers a hell of a lot more utility, and it's easier to get away with sucking at the job; but a PLD can't run to WG, change sj, some equips then go solo big bomb(you know, like the one person on record who's ever done so), or DD in a meripo/einherjar/city dynamis etc. alongside THF, BLU, and PUP.

I agree with what you said, PLD tanking is pretty much easier once. NIN tanking is much harder to do have to understand the enmity table about Volatile Enmity/Cumulative Enmity when and when not to cast certain spells. Can't just spam spam spam or you'll run out its all about precise timing and myself and others prefer NIN tankin over PLD at times. Also the sets nin has makes it beat PLD. Have you ever seen a PLD hold hnms without getting hit? Nin can eva hold a lot of shit which makes them vital at times, so you don't end up wipeing and if you say no then thats just retarded. Look at an enmity table PLD VS NIN and you can see that it's a lot easier to tank on PLD. NIN takes more skill which a lot of the people don't have so they down talk it's tanking capabilities.

A -50% pdt set lets NIN tanks a number of things which PLD can't, simple as that. You can't shield everything.

What's the point of being on nin? Same reason I assume, you like the job. RDM takes less damage, SAM/WAR/DRK do more damage while still tanking fine.

pld can tank it, but overthrow does a hell of a lot more than the 200-400 it does to me.

and vamp gaze attack dooms (which can still kill if slow to react/not many cursnas), not to mention, I've not seen a pld live through it's 2hr.
