i have yet to play (still trying to sort out my key problem which isn't going to get sorted out...and i'll have ot make a new account) but it's a full 'nam conversion, guns, vehicles, gear, etc. i haven't heard anyone say anything bad about it. you'd probably love it.

It's different from Vanilla but not /that/ different, the maps are smaller but tend to have multiple entry points for sites, lots more bottleneck actions, the classes were rebalanced in a good way, soldier is more interesting, snipers are somewhat nerfed and engineer isn't as OP as in Vanilla.
The 'nam feeling is there, it is a very very interesting expansion is more ways than one considering the price tag.

If I had to say something bad about it... well I'm not really fan of jungle maps(personnal thing) but Vantage Point makes up for that, you often find yourself dieing out of nowhere because it's a lot harder to spot ennemies.

I'm getting absolutely wrecked in this game. I've never had a problem holding a 2.0 k/d in other FPS games like MAG, but I'm lucky if I can go positive in a match, although I do a lot better in Vietnam. I think it has more to do with playing a FPS for PC for the first time in ages, I'm almost thinking I should buckle down and get an adapter so I can play with a controller.

Hm, go to My Documents / My Games / BFBC2 and open settings.ini, try to change DXLevel to 9

Tried this. Doesn't give me the black/white screen anymore, but now it sound loops for about 5 seconds and then crashes to desktop without an error message.
I also read people changing their speakers from 0 to 2 in the settings.ini helped, but didn't produce any results for me.

Try deleting GameSettings.bin/gamesettings.ini/settings.ini and restarting BFBC2, if it doesn't work try launching BFBC2 in windowed mode by changing fullscreen in the settings.ini from true to false, if it works in windowed mode it might be related to an application hooking to BFBC2 (MSI Afterburner, FRAPs etc)

Well I leveled up a bit and I think I've got the hang of the game now. What are your guys favorite setups? I've mainly been rushing with recon with a VSS and extra ammo, would be nice to to slap a RDS or 4x scope on but it tears through ammo way to quick, and the default scope is nice for longer shots. I've also been toying around with the slug / magnum setup with assault, and managed to get a double headshot from across the map on 2 people getting out of a tank on atacama desert. Engineer seems kinda weak, there isn't really a strong side method for earing exp like on the other classes and rocket damage is really weak against vehicles, it seems like running up to a tank with C4 on recon or assault is x10 better for taking out vehicles.

Vietnam:

Defending : Medic with M60 and healing kits upgrades
Attacking: Assault with M16/AK47 w/ Magnum and recoil upgrades if my squad is good, if not Recon with GOL (forgot viet name) 4x scope and magnum ammos.

On Vantage Point I go Call of Duty though, Assault with 2x grenades and explosion upgrade for grenade spam.

Vanilla:

Generally, Engineer with AK74U, Tracer Gun & Gustav, explosion upgrade or red dot.

If I'm feeling lulzy Assault with shotgun, C4, Explosion upgrade and C4 upgrade, perma spam C4 to take down mcoms.

VIP gets you all the reworked maps that they came out with in between release and 'Nam. Onslaught has to be paid for. I think there was 7 map packs for VIPs? Something like that.
