    Ragnarok Online(DS)

    http://ragnarokds.com/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnarok_online_ds

Ragnarok Online DS is a game based on the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, that was released in Japan on December 18, 2008. It was announced that publisher Xseed Games has teamed up with developer GungHo Online Entertainment to bring the game to North America, February 16, 2010.[1] It has also been announced that it will be released in South Korea.[4]

GungHo Online Entertainment, the company that hosts the Japanese server of Ragnarok Online, announced it will expand its business for video game consoles, and Ragnarok is the second of 3 games for Nintendo DS to be released by them, along with Aqua Zone DS and Flower Arrangement DS.

The massively multiplayer features of the original will not be present in this version,[5] but will support up to three players simultaneously in a variety of multi-player dungeons.[6]

Two new possibly exclusive classes are released alongside with this game: Dark Knight (which may be related to the unreleased Death Knight class in the MMORPG counterpart) and Shaman.[7]
Has anyone played this yet? It apparently came out Tuesday and was curious if this is worth it.

inb4 this turns into a RO thread.

Wasn't even aware of this and I usually keep up with DS RPGs. Looks interesting though.

I played the JP version when it first came out. Seemed pretty fun although I couldn't understand anything lol, I did download a translation pack for it but it didn't work well. I played the online one for a while, I love it, hopefully the game is like that.

After seeing some YouTube vids, is there a way to bring that camera out further? You can barely see past 5ft from your character, and the last time I played an RPG where I stared at the map more than I did the graphics, I got bored quickly.

Definitely intrigued by this since I played RO for quite a long time, but to answer a previous question in the Japanese version there's no way to change your camera angle. Considering there's no chance of running into random crap like Baphomet or GTB etc it might not be a major issue, might be related to the fact that the stylus is needed for commands. There hasn't been any mention of it in the US release but considering I didn't even hear about this game until now it wouldn't surprise me. Looking at the site it also seems it's only the 2-1 classes .

Gonna have to read up abit more on this now <.<

i think from what i read a while back, its a standalone rpg based off the game. I've actually always wanted to play RO, and for some reason i just never actually got around to it. I've had friends that have played in the past that have loved it, so i may actually check this out. Curious to see more responses in this thread though.

I also played it back in JP (With an english pack). The controls felt a bit awkward from what I remember.

Nothing special to me personally, since I have played RO a lot over the last few years (on and off).

I'm reading mixed reviews on it. Pretty much it's just RO with a storyline, which isn't necessarily bad. There's still a ton of farming that you'll have to do for several quests unless you get lucky with drops, but pretty much if anyone ever hated RO then they won't like this game. Seeing as mass grinding, different jobs to play as, and a pretty decent storyline is perfectly fine to me in a handheld game I'll pick this up whenever I actually have money. Just my input from what I've read up on this game since my last post.

I still kind of want to try it out without the awful controls on the PC version. That alone might make me enjoy it more. Haven't really read about how it controls on the DS, but I'm sure you just use the touch screen. I just really wish you could have used the keyboard to move on the PC version. =/

Played this game a lot before FF11 came out, was most likely the reason I got into MMORPGs. Well, this and PSO.

I ended up buying white knight chronicles when I went to toys r us, but I might go back and get this. Money isn't really an issue, just time cuz I have 2 jobs + aion (which is dying any way) + white knight (addicted already). not to mention pokemon will be out soon enough (im serious) eheh

I downloaded it earlier today, it's ok.

Way way way too much talking involved, and I don't mean you having to find people and talk to them, just the cutscenes. They last forever, and your character's outlook on stuff is retarded.

I like the way the implemented the stylus into the fighting, it's not terribly hard or anything.

The only other thing that irks me besides all the talking in cutscenes, is you have to find maps in chests for the zones you are exploring. Although they are nearly identical to the iRO maps, it's still hard to navigate them from memory.

And to answer an earlier question, there are 3 camera zoom options. the farthest zoom isn't too bad.

Do you still have to pick a class and level like normal? Are there new skills and what not? Because some of the skills you could get are stupid without a party.

Would be interesting, however my router's encryption is set to something the DS can't read. Stupid WEP only ecryption.

Just about all of the skills are exactly identical, I'm going archer, was going to go the path of Bard if I can although I've never played bard on regular settings. I've only played it on private servers, since it's possible to become a battle bard.

Hmm... consider I've played pretty much all of the classes in private servers, I have little reason to play this, unless they have the 3rd classes...but even then I've played Arch Bishop so...

I would lol if the EXP grind was still there though.

It almost feels like you're on a private server. And the party skills aren't completely worthless because you have NPCs as a party. I played for 5 hours yesterday and got all the way up to lvl 30. So the exp rate is really high, but it's to my understanding that the jobs only goes up to 2-1.

But I can't confirm that, I haven't gotten that far and there isn't anything to read about, though I haven't really looked very hard online.

Only going to 2-1 would be a big downer since you said you got to 30 in 5 hours. The online for it is what I'm curious more about.

    Playing Mage sucks :/
It's hard to explain the system. You don't actualy target the mob. You click on spell, hold it to power up and try to release it ontop of the mob. If the mob keeps running around its realy hard to hit it and the loading takes so long that your two npc-mates will be almost done with the mob anyway. I didn't play it too far though, maybe it will get better with full Soulstrike or wiz area-spells.

Changing jobs is nice though. Your base lvl gets halfed, your stats reset to 1 and you get the amount of stat-points that you would normaly have at that lvl to restat. Your teammates stay on their lvls which means you can power-lvl yourself back to old lvl pretty fast.

Story is ok and the guys are kinda funny. Overall i'm enyoing it a lot, though i realy loved RO anyway.
