So, not to thread jack but, lately I've been getting dry eye alot and it feels like my eyes have cuts in them and it's incredibly painful to wear my contacts but I don't glasses that are current. At first I thought it was because my contacts weren't sitting right on my eye, but even after making sure that my lenses are centered, I still get irritation and dryness. Any suggestions?

Last time said it was a defect in the contact -_-, too small etc. Im thinking it's the shitty brand I get from the doctor. Anyone who change brands notice a difference in dry eye?

Definitely do this, and you'll eventually become more accustomed to putting them in. It'll be a breeze in no time.

1800contacts.com is usually a bit cheaper than buying them in person.

Also, I have STUPIDLY sensitive eyes. They're so bad that they react to the preservatives in everyday multipurpose solution. If any of you contact wearers have really bitchy eyes like mine, try this stuff:

    http://www.clearcaresolution.com/len...learcare.shtml

You have to leave your contacts in the solution for a minimum of six hours, but that's the only real downside. It has helped my eyes tremendously.

erm, this kind of advise you get from your doctor or the place you bought your lenses from. wtf, game forums - even the general discussion section; are NOT the right place to ask this type of question.
are people seriously that dependant on internet/forums? this is dangerous.

hey wher can i buy bread from? at the grocery or the bakery.

that stuff's awesome. it makes my contacts last longer per(gotta replace mine every month usually, but can go a bit past a month now) and feels way better when you put em in

make sure you really do let them sit for 6 hours though, first time I didn't realize they were any different from the normal solution, I just picked em off the shelf, and I ended up squirting it in my eye and it hurt like a bitch, because its pretty much squirting hydrogen peroxide in your eyes. Then another time I took them out too early because I had to go out somewhere, I thought it'd be alright if I just wash it with regular stuff after I took it out, but again it hurt like a bitch after I put them in, and i couldnt take them out because i couldnt even open my eyes enough to.
sorry for rambling on, but yeah that shit's awesome, just don't do dumb shit and read the directions

What exactly is it? It's just a solution to cleanse the lenses and not a re-moisturizing solution? Might give it a try if my eye doctor says it's ok when I get my lenses next week.

This is absolutely 100% correct. Eyes have to 'breathe'.

ok, maybe there is input in this thread afterall.

anyone here left lenses in the eyes for a month or so?

thats what i used to do; and when i got my lasek done; it was fucking torture!
i couldnt open my eyes for a whole week; cus of the lack of oxygen. blood red eyes and pain just constant pain. would just sleep because of the pain and the burning i had in my eyes.

so yes, be very careful about that.

yea you dont wanna use the same soultion to rinse the lenses before putting them in. I use that as well on the same pair of contacts. I've had them for about 15 months now. same pair. I dont wear them overnight however, always remove before going to bed.

as for OP question, everyone's giving good advice. I been doing contacts over 14+ yrs now and putting them in and taking them out is totally natrual. I simply use thumb and pointer finger to open eye wide, look straight ahead at mirror and pop them in. don't blink or nothing.

Clear Care is awesome. It's the only solution I use. If you have those, you may also want to buy some saline spray for contacts since (as Velgadess just mentioned), you can't use this to rinse your contacts right before putting them in.

Edit: Thumb and pointer finger? I don't see how you use your thumb lol. I use index on left hand for upper eyelide and middle on right for lower eyelid (and balance the lens on right index). I can't even position my hands in a way where I could make using my thumb an option lol

had contacts for 20-ish years - i look up, put em in the bottom part of the eye and then look down to center them. takes about 15 sec for both eyes total.

it's an adjustment, totally, but you'll get used to em quicker than you think.

at least you don't have hard contact lenses lol, those were my first pair. rode my dinosaur to pick em up from the docs. fucking things were painful.

I wear them about 16-18 hours a day every day during 13 years long. Of course I had troubles because my eyes weren't exposed to air enough so they got dry and blood vessel were created to get more blood 'then air' to my eyes. Of course it will make infections and it is VERY VERY painful and it took about 6 months to get them back to normal. The blood vessel will also in the most of case always stay there but they remain empty. So It's really easy to get the pain back fast.

Then my doctor found me a brand who's more fragile but breathe more. By the way It took 8 years to get to this problem.

    Sorry for my english hehe.

I normally keep my eyes held open for a few extra seconds to make sure they're in properly, if you close your eyes and they're in wrong its a lot more painful attempting to force your lids open to pull it out, rather than them being open already.

Also there is often air in contact lenses when they're first put in (if you you look close enough you can see where they havent fixed onto your eye), if you allow this to settle it will take the initial annoyance of them settling whilst trying to focus.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Gonna ninja this thread as well for a contact question. I've been using contacts on and off for like forever (basically I get them, then when the rip I switch back to glasses for awhile, until I get sick of them and go back to contacts).

ANYWAY, I'm at that point where I plan to switch back to contacts again (for my birthday in a month). For sure my prescription is outdated so I'll need a new eye exam.

My contacts have always been really expensive because my eye shape is rare (it was only maybe 3 years ago they FINALLY had my size in disposables, and those are monthlies, I still don't think they have them in weekly yet). So, I'm tempted to try 1800 contacts since as people said in this thread they are cheaper than at the doctors.

My question is for those that use it, do you just go for an eye exam and say, "I just want a prescription, no contacts" or something? Or do you usually just order the base minimum and get your refills online? I would think going in for an eye exam it's pretty much assumed you're going to get the contacts there, so just wondering how that works.

[edit] as well as, how long will your prescription last through 1800contacts before they force you to get an updated prescription?

In October, I went to the eye doctor just to get the prescription. I outright told them that I wanted to order mine through 1800 contacts. They were fine with that. I'm not sure if every place is like that (I was at walmart). Just tell them on the phone when you schedule your appointment that you plan to order through 1800 contacts and not through them and see what they say. I did get a trial pair through walmart though (because it comes free as part of the exam. I think eyemasters did that to. Maybe every place does that).

I think the amount of time 1800 contacts will accept your prescription depends on what the laws of your state dictate. In Ohio, it's illegal to accept a prescription older than a year. So when I tried to order contacts, they outright told me that by Ohio law they can't accept my prescription (which is why I went to the eye doctor to get a new one).

I simply could not figure out how to put them in when I first got mine. I would watch other people do it, and for the life of me I couldn't make it work. Finally I just had my girlfriend (who had worn them for years) put them in for me, and for like a week she did them every day. I realize that's weird, probably unsanitary, and possibly dangerous, but it got my eyes used to the way they were supposed to feel when they were going in. From that point I didn't have a problem anymore.

TLDR: If you're having trouble getting it in, ask an experienced girl to show you how

I think with girls it's different since they're always putting shit on their eyes and lashes. Their eyes are just used to shit being so close to their eyes from an early age. It couldn't hurt but realize they're good at it for other reasons. D:

just get really obnoxious frames and wear glasses instead, its what I do and it works great. on a moar serious note, I tried contacts at a young age but I could never get used to putting shit in my eye :z the only time I wear contacts now is shows because I look down at the neck during complex parts and I've had my glasses fall off before, it's more muscle memory than anything but I always second guess myself on fret position
