I never understood why people only use one shadow set. I have two seperate sets for ichi and ni. Full haste and a mix of pdt, haste, and shield gear. I use the full haste set when I'm sure I won't be hit, and the other set when I'm either not so sure, trying to get shadows back up after an aoe, or know for sure I will take a hit. It's much more efficient.
My ichi is based on shield > SIR > -phs... The only time you should be getting hit /nin is during ichi cast.
To Eanae... I haven't started the addon because I cannot decide what augments I want. I have the proper legs for w/e build and most of the choices are minor upgrades that would not save me inventory space. I've been thinking hard between -phys & cure potency vs cure potency & enmity.
Eanae you should have a third Ichi set for DI !
To Sath: I was thinking more along the lines of losing the mp you gain from homam/turban etc because 4/5 iron ram and bmask.
While DD tanking can be more efficient if successfully performed, as Sath pointed out it is challenging, and that's not efficient.
Sure its fun and I will never restrict anyone from trying it out or doing it if they are good at it. But you can't generalize and say its better and everyone should do it because the higher risk minimizes the improvement in performance.
Nots not what Sath said.
And career NIN have been relying on shadows without the buffer of shield blocks for years. If someone can't do that on DRK(with Dread Spikes, mind you), its an issue of incompetence, nothing more.
Edit: And I would never assert that everyone, everywhere must change their gold standard overnight, but to say that its not always more efficient is simply untrue(keeping in mind that I acknowledged that things like DI don't apply).
Well, I agree that in some situations there are more efficient combos (I love drk/nin to hold KV for instance). Same way as lowmaning and manaburning many NMs is more efficient than old fashion alliances.
But still, for the most part, I believe pld is the most efficient tank since its the safest and has more survival tools.
For example I would never bring a pld to sky/sea/salvage/limbus/znm farms and such, but for HNMs or in general mobs you can't lowman and you need a real tank I think PLD is the most efficient since you minimize the risk of shit happening.
Which tank is more survivable isn't really an issue when its so hard to actually die to things(even though its RDM, not PLD). The point is that the difference between killing a PLD/NIN with capped recasts and a DRK/NIN with capped recasts is virtually inconsequential. Beyond that, one deals more damage than the other, which is why they're more efficient.
tl;dr Burtgang vs Excalibur
