    Vorge, very interesting set of gear. Personally i don't like my character to blink too much, but i do understand your gear swaps. I know there is a plugin, but not everyone uses it.

    My question to other pld's is. Why joyeuse over chainsaw for stuff that is very difficult to gain TP on?

    A very good idea~ I quit before Aumoniere came out so and I never did get Valor Cape, not that I really prioritised it. That is a good tip though, cheers!

    I'd attribute this mostly to laziness. I carried a chainsaw+1 with me for fights that I did not engage, and used joytoy when it was fine to tp.

    Just an idea.
    I was merely reiterating his post, and adding my opinion. You'd be amazed how many people still think you can only cap MDT with aegis

    If it's something that you can't gain TP on due to it not being a good think to melee in general b/c of TP moves or whatever, you'll probably not be engaged in which case Chainsaw/Haute would be better than Joy, though echo what's above those situations would best be handled by a RDM anyways.

    I only kept Joy in there as a placeholder for {Sword}, In situations where I cannot engage such a kite, Tiamat, JOL and others I carry a Beavertail +1 with me. I also like to carry a Templar Mace, and if Khim ever puts out I'll swap in Haute for PDT situations. (Also Hrotti for Fire.)

    As far as blinking goes I have run into a mage or two who was not prepared to support a tank that swapped as much gear as I did, but in my current LS it is expected of you that you have some what to prevent blinks. Be it Blinkmenot or even something as simple as the STAL function in your macros, or typing //spell playername, whichever you are fastest with. Tho to be honest since they put in STAL blinking should never ever be a problem under any circumstances imho.

    For me it's a matter of application. A black mage doesn't nuke Thunder in an Earth Staff just to prevent a blink, a WHM doesn't cure in the same gear they idle in. Paladin is no different. To truly get the most out of the job there are 16 slots that all have gear with different uses. I can respect a personal opinion, of course, but this is just my philosophy on the job.

    Really low defense compared to Kaiser Shield. Overall not worth it at all.

    Most have hit the nail on the head, but I will say that I think people should pay more attention to how much MP you lose during your gear swaps... For example on the first page, someone had a Cure IV cheat, but it cost him 125mp to cast it.

    My Macro Books include:
    PLD/WAR
    PLD/NIN Straight Tank
    PLD/NIN Kite
    PLD/RDM Solo
    PLD/RDM Straight Tank

    Each of which all have nearly unique gear sets for actions taken specific to which mob/type of mob I will be tanking.

    I will also take this chance to make a plug for my Paladin Calculator (link in sig), that can help you maximize these actions depending on the gear you have available to you.

    Sentinel shield is a macro swap for RDM for shadows. That is all.

    This is a very good point. Generally speaking the pieces being swapped in and out should only be HP pieces which is back, ring, neck, waist. Might be losing some MP in earring. Mind you, this is for taru, galka might be a different story.

    If you have the support for a DD tank and want the extra damage, sure, but if we're talking about tanking efficiency in terms of max survivability and max enmity, which really shines in low low man situations/holding with no elegy or slow, or when rushing to a HNM pop, DD tank isn't feasable/efficient.

    Other example is HQ worm, RDM tank just pwns that bitch, and I don't think DD tank is feasable let alone efficient (phys absorb + gale pwnage).

    7+1 (BLM mule) kill in 45mins with no problems at all, surely was one of my favourite accomplishments.
    Have you even read anything I've said, or just skimmed? If you're fighting DI, something with physical absorption, or trying to trio Khimaira without a reliable slow/elegy, of course you're not going to use a DRK, but even with relatively low numbers, against something that's susceptible to physical damage from the front, there's no reason to use a RDM.

    As far as maximum enmity goes, saying that a DRK/NIN will fall behind a RDM is just silly. And before you go thinking I'm biased, RDM tanking is the one of the few things I actually enjoy doing in this game, I just recognize it for the unnecessary precaution that it is.

    Lately I've heard more people saying something like "HP builds are so 2005"

    But on PLD, I still like standing in whatever HP I can afford to, since it reduces enmity loss (from damage taken) as far as I know...!

    Did I miss a memo or something, or do people just not know this?

    Its just not worth taking into consideration most of the time. Much better things to put in slots, etc.

    PLD's shouldn't be taking enough damage to really make it to the point where you're losing drastic amounts of hate to damage taken.

    PDT is mentioned because when shadows are down and for whatever reason you don't have cooldowns, are stunned without shadows, are terrored or are about to take unmitigated damage then PDT is a very important set to have. It can very easily be the difference between survival and being gibbed, and if you're fighting a more serious HNM it gives your healers a bit more breathing room to get you back on your feet. Sure the higher the HP pool the less enmity lost per hit, however, enmity lost from bleeding on a Paladin is rather low (compared to other jobs) and with defensive cooldowns and PDT you can minimize it more.

    For example: My favorite move from Khimaira is Dreadstorm. Magic Damage that wipes shadows and Terrors. Swap to MDB when it readies the move, once the damage drops your hp instantly push yourself into PDT and hold on till either terror wears and you can throw a quick Ni up, you bleed enough it goes to the secondary tank, or it wears off while Khim is still eating your face.

    PDT gear should also, in my opinion, be paired with higher HP items in non PDT slots. Buffing your pool for the bleed/enmity ratio, and decreasing hits via PDT% giving you a large hp pool that is bleeding at a slower rate. A decent CV and C3 backup should put you to full in your PDT to ride out the terror or what have you. This kind of brings your high HP "idle" and PDT together for a solid mitigation and threat retaining gearset.

    I agree, pld/nin has a bad mp efficiency inregards to hate tools. /2546/88 in regards to flash(being the only good one)/c3/c4 vs 25 and under for rdm,nin,drk spells. I try to maintain a high enmity count on cure cheats while consuming a minimal amount of mp required as much as possible.

    Ive used this set since 07, its done a great job so far with a few pieces added in as I got them. Still could use a few more, but Ill get to them when I can...

    Cure3 :
    input /equip waist "Astral Rope";

    input /equip ear1 "Loquacious Earring";

    input /equip ear1 "Hades Earring +1";

    Cure4:
    input /equip waist "Astral Rope";
    input /equip neck "Morgana's Choker";
    input /equip ear1 "Loquacious Earring";
    input /equip head "Walahra Turban";

    input /equip ear1 "Hospitaler Earring";
    input /equip head "Walahra Turban";
    input /equip feet "Homam Gambieras";
    input /equip ring1 "Hercules' Ring";
    input /equip hands "Homam Manopolas";
    input /equip body "Nuevo Coselete";
    input /equip ear2 "Bloodbead Earring";
    input /equip back "Gigant Mantle";
    input /equip ring2 "Bomb Queen Ring";

    I use to use cassie for this, but with the mp to hp, it hurt my mp pool more than anything. With only 420 mp~ish couple of cures can go by fast. I generally save c4s for sentinel, or hate reset moves. I suppose with 2 brds its not an issue, but with 1 brd, I stick with double marches.

    You have to remember, if you idle in HP gear, its not doing as much for you as you think. As any pld does, youll be macroing gear left and right, meaning youll be taking that piece of gear off, and putting it back on and it wont be putting you back up on full HP. So outside of reducing enmity lose from damge, its not reducing the chances of you dying(good support/buffs/debuffs are). As Tsuko said, theres better gear to be using for different situations.

    Most things in this game cant one shot or two shot you with proper support. Any deaths are usually due to lack of focus, mistakes or bad timing. Then again theres always RPG(Random pwning generator).

    Personally, I just use windower macros because i like to tweak them just a bit depending on sub job, type of fight, and mob. I feel like I have more control this way, plus its easy for me to tweak on the fly pretty quickly.

    it's a very simple thing for a spellcast control on whether to use cassie or another earring depending on mp. anyone wants, i'll pm you mine or post it here, whichever.
