Personally I really like Gigabyte's boards (mainly because I own one) - they have a good variety of features across their line, the boards are laid out well and feel like they're built to be very solid. For an X58 board I'd go with this one. I also like EVGA's boards based on what the modding/OC community's been saying (particularly this one), but I haven't seen a version that has USB/SATA 3.0 yet.

If you're planning on putting in a second 5870...then I would definitely second an X58/i7 920 based system over the i7 860 to get the most out of it.

Having that particular EVGA mobo myself, the positioning of the heatsinks can be a pain in the ass if you're planning on getting creative with air cooling the CPU.

This isn't a game breaker mind you, but it is nice to have a dremel tool available to make the necessary adjustments.

Hold off on the 5870, that's a big eater. Wait for the 5830's to come out soon or the nvidia fermi to bring the Ati prices down. Also, consider looking at the 5770 1gig for much cheaper that will still max out games to a good extent with DX11 compatibility.

I made a build yesterday for only under 600 bucks and it's nearly identical to what you have there minus the monitor since I already have a nice one. i5,ddr3 (4gigs @1333),p55,5770 1 gig alone should only cost you about 550 bucks. There are better deals on newegg with rebates and coupon codes you have to look harder for.

The 5830 seems a tad underwhelming assuming it actually gets out at the price point mentioned for it (~$240). At/under $200 it'd be decent though.

The 5830 was announced today and the reviews are panning it hard.. basically it's a severely handicapped 5870 with a higher CPU clock.. which has the effect of making it barely perform better than a 5770 while using more power than a 5870, at a price slightly lower than the 5850.
