Yet at the same time i've been hearing that the GOP is paying more attention to Ron Paul, as in, actually acknowledging his existence and singing his praises. It is kind of funny watching some of them suck up to the libertarians when not more than 3 years ago Rudy was essentially accusing Ron of being anti-american. I just hope Ron Paul is smart enough to know that the GOP just wants to absorb his movement (that part of it that isn' t reactionary racists and nutjobs) and that they share nothing in common with him, seeing as how everytime they've been in power as of late, the last thing they do is make the government smaller.

ha this reminds of the online/text polls RP would always win during the republican primaries before the last election and Hannity would always rage

The tea party has been singing his praises, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the collective GOP is heralding him. There are still many that are telling young voters that a vote for Ron Paul is essentially wasting one's vote, which is utterly absurd, but propaganda is propaganda.

Ron Paul seems like a very smart man; I doubt he'd be satisfied being a figurehead for the GOP as a whole. The only thing I worry about is that Libertarians and Green members, who are so accustomed to losing and being marginalized, will do just that, and sell their ideals out simply for a real shot at the limelight.

As Ann Coulter brilliantly said at CPAC, Ron Paul is absolutely great as long as it isn't on national defense.

What is a "neo-con"? You people obviously have no idea what it means or what values a "neo-con" holds. It's just this generic epithet that you use to insult anyone you don't like.

The most popular argument among lefties is that Bush is a neo-con. Conservatives would say he was a liberal taking orders from the ever-fabulous Dick Cheney.

For instance, I don't like Ron Paul. It's not because I'm a neocon (I'm not) and have a secret desire to invade the rest of the world, it's because we can't trust Ron Paul with our national security. He won't win the nomination because of that. This would be like the Republican running a pro-abortion candidate.

It's not an excuse. It's an explanation and a completely valid analysis.

If someone says "Ron Paul won because he managed to capture youth support, which care less and less about the party's social issues", it is a fact, not a sorry excuse.

Wait, it's true. Ron Paul cannot defeat a Democrat in a national election. This thread has already started a pattern of repeating obviously true facts and declaring them to be lies. Give me a break.

As a refresher, the tea party also loves: Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Michele Bachmann.

The current hot button issue may be the Democrats attempt to nationalize everything they can, but its not like they're a bunch of pacifists. They're conservatives.

He wants to bring the troops home and use them to secure our borders and coastlines which are currently as open as lindsey lohan's legs. How is that not good for national security?

Because terrorists won't be getting killed.

Why don't we secure our borders and give Iraq the support it needs so the United States can have a long-term ally in the Middle East. That's an invaluable asset to the United States.

Just about every Republican besides John McCain wants to secure our border. It's not an issue unique to Ron Paul.

Leaf, it comes off as an excuse because, that alongside everything else they are saying about his victory is used to create the idea that Ron Paul is not in fact what republicans want. The implication there being that The "adults" know better than to vote for ron paul.

You do realize being over there creates more terrorists then we can kill?

I think we should just nuke the whole region.

Except CPAC is not the Republican Party. CPAC is filled with conservatives, young people, and libertarians.

This would be like polling the pro-abortion wing of the Democratic party. They would vote for more abortion and abandon all other issues.

That's insane and completely unsubstantiated. The idea that killing terrorists creates more terrorists is completely illogical. This requires a serious argument rather than a poor excuse not to fight any wars.

The idea that fighting winning wars and killing your enemies makes you less safe from those same enemies is preposterous. As Ann brilliantly explains, there will be less of them.

You say that now, much like your televised counterparts, the irony in this however is that it has been touted an important indicator in years past. The right can't go on for years about the significance of this specific poll and then when the result is something they disapprove of say, well its meaningless.

The serious argument? Made 30 years ago by the Soviet General running Afghanistan. Every mujahideen you kill has more male relatives then you have fingers and they will all take it personally when you kill their male relative and that shit won't be pretty.

Whoever touted it as important was a dumbass. I don't think anyone who has won the poll has gone on to get nomination in quite some time.
