I think the liberal accusations only come out when one uses an insulting term.

If you said, "I dislike you. You are foolish." , I believe that would mark you as a liberal.

I also don't understand why disliking idiotic republicans automatically makes you a liberal. Disliking idiot democrats wouldn't automatically qualify me for Leif's "Republican of the Month!" club, so I don't know why the opposite rings true.

Well it seems like in the States we consider social agenda stronger than fiscal agenda when deeming someone liberal or conservative. In the rest of the world it seems like it is the other way around.

What I mean is if someone is conservative with respect to government size and spending but socially liberal with respect to things like gay marriage and abortion they are considered a liberal here.

Likewise someone who wants big government and lots of spending and is ok with taxes but is socially conservative will be deemed a conservative.

That's because in the US our fiscal ideas are virtually similar whether or not you rail against big government 9/10 politicians will enact shit that increases government's size, so you distinguish based on shit where its easier, even if one side of the argument is completely wrong.
