Not a huge issue because I can open task manager with a right-click but is there a way to stop the game crashing when I hit the old 3-fingered salute? (win7 pro x64)

No because this blinks the screen which FFXI can't handle and causes the crash. This isn't a windower issue, it's a FFXI issue.

If you are like every single other person (With the exception of one) I've ever helped with "OMG WINDOWER CRASHES" problems, you should now have windower running fine.

got an error reading "Trouble reading registry" after doing all that, which i have had come up before. POL still loaded, so will see in a sec...


and same thing PlayOnline Viewer has stopped working etc etc....

i dl'd the trial version, to try to get around buying it, but it doesnt coem with expansions, so i boguht it and dl'd through steam. could that be playing a negative role in it not working?

Did you delete the trial version before downloading the steam version?

im currently uninstalling ff, and getting rid of it all, and reinstalling the steam version, so i prolly need to run updates over nite

I'm pretty sure I had a LS mate say that SteamFFXI+Windower didn't work for him. I also remember him reinstalling FFXI from discs. If you don't have them, you could try and find a safe torrent for it. There have been multiple threads on that specifically here on BG.

i had the discs, but idk where they are atm, thats half the problem. I have my CoP discs, and pretty sure i know where my base/zilart discs are, but idk where my toau discs are and i torrentd wotg and idk where that is lol

edit: just found all my discs, now i just gotta find my wotg torrent files...

Windower works with steam. Steam FFXI doesn't work if FFXI is installed somewhere else (Free trial).

meh, im reinstalling with discs anyway, i uninstalled shit and it was being rretarded, so i jsut got rid of it all. So far ive installed the base+zilart, and the win7 pol rom their site...so we'll see tomorrow i guess..

ok so, i reinstalled with discs, and did all those steps u recommended HKR, and still crash..did the whole advanced thing. Theres only 1 copy on my harddrive (that i know about). With it reinstalled from discs, Version 4 still loads without a problem. However, like has been said already 4 doesnt have the plugins and has the keyboard bug and all that. Is there any other way someone can think of that i can try? Also, if there is someone who has some ideas, maybe could talk via msn or aim chat, cuz i think that would help instead of posting on a forum, waiting 20misn for a response, etc

When release version of windows 7 first came out there was a crash problem, that had the odd fix of turning on the calendar gadget. IDK why it worked but it did, I stopped needing it with 3.42 though. FYI that was with the hook.dll that was made for Widows 7 release candidates.

What was really funny is you could force a crash, by closing the calender gadget.

First of all, do not listen to these idiots who say to turn off UAC. UAC is actually a useful feature that will help prevent shit you don't want from running on your computer.

UAC is only for idiots who need idiot proofing, and causes crashes for the rest of us who know wtf they are doing. Not even going to comment on your other recommendations.

Someone made a suggestion a few posts ago about trying the version 4 hook, cuz 4 works for me. Would using the hook from 4 ain 3.42 work?

Might try using the alpha 4 hook then with the 3.42?

v4 is completely rewritten from v3 and functions entirely different, so unfortunately there is no "hook.dll" that you can copy from v4 to v3 to make it work :/

Since I upgraded to windows 7, my game crashes when I go from POL > FFXI witn windower unless I have a video playing in VLC, not really sure why. It works fine when I'm using regular POL though. Give that a try maybe? It'd be nice to know I'm not the only one with that kind of problem.

Editing (even just opening and saving) your PlayOnline FFXI Settings can fix this.


I've also heard of ppl needing to have a widget or IE or some other app running while they run windower, however I have not had this problem so that's as far as my memory goes.
