Samsung for LCD or Plasma but stay 500 series or above.

    Panasonic makes amazing plasmas.

Sony XBR9 is an amazing LED tv but ridiculously overpriced (although not as bad as when it first came out it would seem).

That plasma looks very nice. I'm not very TV savvy but I remember hearing there's a specific breaking-in needed for plasmas. Is this true? Is it something that will cost additional money to get? And is it annoying to deal with?

For those of you who have ordered a TV from Newegg, is it worth it to get a service plan to go with it?

Edit: One more thing to add, this TV will be going in a pretty well lit room and will be used as a Gaming TV as well. Should I be worried about the plasma vs getting a LCD?

Breaking in isn't something you need to buy nor is it really annoying (unless you really can't wait ~100 hours to watch your TV once you get it). Basically you just get a DVD from a site like:

    http://www.eaprogramming.com/

There's also just the images so you could load them on a flash drive and run through a slideshow of pictures should the TV support that. A good idea is to then run the DVD/slideshow for the aforementioned 100 hours or so and then you're good to go.

I'd much prefer plasma over LCD personally.

Imagine playing FFXI on a Plasma TV and having a hamburger forever stained in the screen. LCD is the only way to go because it won't get things like hamburges burned into it.

You'd literally need to do that for like 3 days straight to burn it in, potentially several 3 day sessions. Plasma is "Safe" for everyone but morons.

+1, seen where people got pranked though and had retarded images stuck on the screen.

Plasma burn-in is no longer an issue, I play FFXI 20-40hrs a week on mine and have never had an issue.

Getting a TV delivered tomorrow for the first time. Besides a visual inspection and just plugging it in and turning it on, is there anything else important I should do to make sure everything is in good order after being shipped?

Gonna just hijack this thread instead of making a new one.

Does anyone have any experience with home theater projectors. How is the definition when properly set up? Do the colors diminish in the sunlight/bright rooms? Are there any brands/makes I should keep an eye on?

If Im trying to make a top of the line home theater is this the direction to go? Or should I be trying to find a great LCD/Plasma?

Any other tips or things I should look out for?

    Thanks for the help.

Anyone know where to find a coupon code for a Newegg TV? I lost mine for $100 off.

Projectors are only worthwhile in rooms you have absolute control over lighting, with pitch dark being preferable.

Otherwise Plasma, or LCD in specific situations.

As for brands I dunno, I don't keep up with projectors.

Only if you're not smart about it within the first 100 hours of it being on, or leave static things on the screen for 15+ hours
