I felt completely defeated last night, and I can't really figure out what the hell was going wrong. I think I aborted Rathalos offline about... 3 or 4 times. I just could not get him to even limp.

Felt like i was barely scratching him too. I think part of my problem was that i was using the weak ass first LS, but I wanted his tail and that was my only real option. I was able to sever his tail nearly every time, as well as break his wings a couple times also, but... it took so GD long.

So i finally just gave up for a bit and farmed 3 or 4 Lagis... looking for horns. -.- It got me thinking though. In the past 2-3 PSP titles I have always been either Hammer or LS depending on what I am trying to accomplish in a fight. I started thinking that there is no reason not to learn something *gasp* new. So tonight I am going to continue farming Lagi but with the end result being a Lagi Gunner set and then work on a few Bow Gun parts. End result is going to be staggering the hell out of Rathalos with one.

I am actually looking forward to learning something new here.

How necessary is it to have a plan of what you want to do with your equipment? If I stick with SnS for awhile now but decide I like another weapon later on, will I end up wasting/spending a lot time trying to bring this new weapon style up to my SnS level? Being a MH newb, trying to figure out what to do with all these different weapon types and their different paths seems daunting.

It all depends on how much you enjoy/hate farming the materials. Personally, I know what to expect so upgrading different weapon types, different armors, etc. is just part of the process.

I think I hit my 10th Lagiacrus last night before I got a single horn... and I need 5 more now (2 for Lagia Helm, 2 for Lagia Cap, and 1 for Lagia Coat (for Blademaster). And these are full runs (Capture and Kill 5 Star Offline) no 'Quit via Subquest' back outs.

At this point, since I just gemmed my Alloy Cap for the set anyway for Gunner it doesn't even matter... but it IS a matter of just getting the horns. You might not feel that way, you may farm the materials you need from a certain Boss and never want to see them again.

Still though, I don't see a reason to having a set in stone plan of action as far as a shopping list for upgrades goes. You might decide you hate a weapon, or want something new (Gunning Rathalos is fun!) but you may just want to tear through as fast as you can too?

Keep in mind too, that by 'later on' you will probably have a much better SnS than you did when initially facing this farmed Boss as well as a better understanding of their patterns... so farming for a new type of weapon/armor will likely be a bit easier.

I tried the capture quest for lagi earlier and couldn't capture it.

I spent 4 traps, 1 I brought on my own, and combined 2 during it and used the 3rd that shows up with extra items later , ran out of tranq bombs so I just quit the quest.

I wish I also didn't run into idiots online all the time. I did 4 Rathians last night and all of them were from their deaths.

Without the Capture Guru skill (Perception +10) which causes the Boss's icon to blink when they can be captured, you really just have to wait for the limp. There is also a pretty perceptible sound that they make when they limp.

I know with Lagi and Royal Luddroth at first it was hard to be sure that they WERE limping (because of the fact that they are often in the water when they are) but watch them swim normally a few times, and then when you finally do see the limp it is much jerkier.

Should only take 2 tranq bombs when monster is trapped to capture them, unless they changed it in Tri. If 2 doesn't capture it you need to lower its health more. Varies by monster, but in MHFU you generally had to get monsters to below 20% health at a minimum.

Yeah I had it limping and had 10 tranq bombs on me but couldn't do it. I was being cautious not to accidentally kill it so I guess I just didn't do enough damage.

For underwater fights I use only switchaxes because of their lunge works great under there.

Still I hate fighting this thing.

I'm staying away from LS until I can make better ones than the starter.

Just did Rathalos and had to quit it via subquest because it took 48mins to weaken it and it disappeared and I couldn't find it at all during the last 2 mintues. It's like he vanished or glitch in thin air.

At least I got a plate to drop before he did a abra on me.

You have no idea the rage I have at Rathalos right now... Last night I decided to just weaken him and trap him (not really much of a decision since it takes me 40 mins with a Bowgun to do that...)

So first time, 8ish mins left he is limping so i switch to Tranq Ammo, trap him, whip out the gun... and realize i switched to Tranq but didn't load it. By the time it is loaded he has shaken off stun. No more traps. Quit via subquest...

Second time, I do very well, about 10 mins left and he is limping... and as he flies off my Paintball wears. I spent LITERALLY 5 mins looking for him in every area. Can't find him, quit via subquest. Turn off Wii.

I can get him limping fine, just having horrid luck with getting him in my trap/tranq'd. I have never had this much trouble with him. Now i need to farm up trap/flash ingred. again tonight =(

After getting to HR10 last night, I've decided I don't ever want to party with a GS user ever again. They spend more time hitting me into the monsters attacks than they do hitting the damn monster.

And a question to Lance users: does blocking work differently underwater? Used Lance for the first time against Gobul last night and I noticed I was still taking a little bit of damage even when I was blocking his attacks correctly.
