The only thing I really like about GS is that I can also guard with a 2 handed weapon. I'm just having some trouble keeping the god damn monster where my blade is going. I just have to get used to it I guess. I did learn to keep myself away from my teammates though, and one of my friends likes the hammer so he's always at the front.

I try to stay to the side or to the rear.

I didn't think about the dung bombs, I'll make sure I have a couple of them ready for the fight. Also, would it help if I used some pitfall traps or shock traps to keep him in one spot so I can wail on him? I haven't had a lot of experience using the traps except for a few capture quests that I've done. I'll make sure and go for his legs, I haven't fought him yet with a large weapon (Online mode I was using SnS vs him), so I'll see if that helps.

Has anyone thought of the absolute horror that would be caused if hitting other players actually did damage to them? Oh the Chat log would be filled with rage blood.

I'm more pissed off at these random disconnects.

Did Jhen for the first time tonight. Got a gem on the very first fight. I guess it's really true that items only drop when you have no interest in getting them. Also got elder dragon blood off the second repel, but I couldn't find if that was rare or not.

Been playing the game lightly and mostly screwing around, getting to the quests now. What's the best way of handling the Guts quest? Awkwardly swimming to Epioths is annoying enough with underwater controls, but I don't think I have that good a chance of dodging any attacks in the water.

I imagine the autotracker works wonders for this quest, but how does it get activated?

You're going to have to learn to swim effectively, that's all there really is to it, unfortunately. If you don't have a classic controller, get one.

There really isn't a trick to the guts quest, you just need to get comfortable moving around in water. It will come with time. Also, hit Z1 and Z2 while in water to do a vertical dodge, if you're using a CControler.

On another note: Are the monsters tougher online? I fainted twice last night while soloing Great Jaggi. It was incredibly demoralizing.

Also, is there any sure way to remove a monster's appendages? I've killed two Barroth now by attacking nothing but it's tail, but I've yet to sever it.

Blargh, I guess I'll just be patient and wait for epioths in zone 10 when I get back to my wii tonight.

You using a hammer? I've heard hammers can't cut tails.

Monsters are stronger online. I think their HP is tripled so they can survive four players wailing on them without dying instantly. Their damage might be stepped up a bit as well, I haven't compared it too thoroughly.

Btw, I've never had D/C issues online. Since it's entirely peer to peer, if you're having trouble, investigate your connection.

I'm sure some of you won't believe this, and say things like "BUT MY CONNECTION IS TEH BEST LOL", so here's a letter from Capcom regarding it:

    Hello Andy,

There are no servers for gameplay on Monster Hunter Tri. We do use servers for matchmaking but that is about it. The online experience is based on peer to peer service. This means the quality of the experience is based on the connection quality between you and the people you play with. If you are experiencing connection issues try the following steps below.

Connect directly to your broadband modem
If you have to use a router connect your Wii to it with a Wii ethernet adapter.
If wireless is the only way to connect to your router then disable your firewall.
If this issue continues or you are unable to disable your firewall then set your router so it has the Wii in a DMZ.

Also see Nintendo's support site for more tips on preventing disconnects.

What's the prereqs for getting to 2 star quests in online mode? Do you have to repeat quests to get a certain HR? Or do you have to beat certain event quests?

Also, we beat the four great jaggi quest last night pretty easily and it doesn't say DONE on the event quest screen. That supposed to be that way?

Do the key quests, then get your HR up

Event quests are like that I think

The more experienced guy in our group switched to SnS for Barroth. Any reason for that specifically? I'm still enjoying the SA

Do you know if his sword was elemental? Since you have to chase Barroth so much, maybe he switched to a water sword to get more hits in.

Yeah that was it. Upgraded ludroth nail line has water elemental or something.

I'm doin pretty good now. Downed Barroth first try solo, we haven't killed it online yet. Then I hit up the Gobul for next area unlock etc. He was a bitch lol. 10 potions and 10 mega potions and he finally went down.

Going to be a toss up now between SA and LS for me. I'll have to see how LS fairs when I get one to mess with. Unfortunately my next two SA upgrades seem to either be a Barroth one that I don't much care for stat wise... or the other option is the Lagicus or whatever his name is option lol.

Is Gobul really hard to people? I owned him the first time because I thought he was slow and predictable. >_>

Underwater I do a shitty job breaking off certain parts outside tail(or chest). Only real problem.

Definitely took me for a ride lol. I think its more because I don't work as well under water yet.

He can be a pain i think. I don't think he has ever KO'd me offline, but the first time he did use up all my potions... I was trying to get rid of his lantern though, and wasn't really positioning myself right during that first fight. The Cha-Cha rules to have around for him. If he targets the Cha-Cha with his water cannon and you can quickly get behind him it is a nice amount of free shots to his Lantern.

Just repelled my first Caedeus. I got a Rusted Hammer and turned it into a Breath Core Hammer (832 Raw / 230 Dragon) and it still took me right til the end. I really didn't think I would do it in time, and I completely missed with the Dragonator. I did break his horn, and may have messed up his beard before that but it didn't look any different to me so not sure.

EDIT: Nvm, think that was 'breaking his beard' since i got a Caedeus Fur as a reward.
