What armor were you wearing for him? I'm going to give him another shot today since I'm acting like a noob online suddenly(stacking down pots when not needed etc).

Full yamato+gun dao makes me look like a full af1 sam with that lv60 polearm.

I'm doin pretty good now. Downed Barroth first try solo, we haven't killed it online yet. Then I hit up the Gobul for next area unlock etc. He was a bitch lol. 10 potions and 10 mega potions and he finally went down.

Going to be a toss up now between SA and LS for me. I'll have to see how LS fairs when I get one to mess with. Unfortunately my next two SA upgrades seem to either be a Barroth one that I don't much care for stat wise... or the other option is the Lagicus or whatever his name is option lol.

Don't think thunder weapons are worth it, since most of the same monsters are weak to fire. Plus, if you really want the axe, you can always eventually get both

I wore full Lagiacrus for the Olympic Swimmer. Figured it couldn't hurt. That set is max DEF too for me so over all, with Attack Gems I get:

Attack 941 w/ 330 Dragon
Defense 159

Skills:
Attack up M
Olympic Swimmer
Element ATK Up
Razor Sharp


I could also use my Rathalos Set with Expert Talisman and have Attack Up M and 20% Affinity. I figured the Swimmer would help more though. Sadly, I failed at actually killing him. I think I missed with the Dragonator by 1/2 a second, though i did break his beard and horn again.

Right now I am just farming Rustshards and watching a movie on my laptop =P Just had max Rustshards (8) and max Mystery Charms (5) in that last run. Getting tons of ores of course and all kinds of Armor Spheres. Hoping for a Rusted Lance though.

Do you not rank up if another person leads your next Urgent Mission quest? My GF was able to rank up to HR9 after the Barroth fight online and I didn't rank up when we beat it.

Only the Quest Leader gets the 'credit' for Urgents. Only quests that are like that. Feels like an O-Hat run =P

Oof, Barioth is a nightmare. Might need to switch out my Dragon type axe for the fire Longsword. I did manage to get his tail before he killed me though, hah!

Ha, I just decided to farm him a few hours ago and he is just a pain in the ass. First I tried with LS and my Rath armor, and he is just too GD 'all over the place'. Tried with my Hammer and it was better a bit, but he is still a giant dick.

What I finally ended up doing was going back to my Qurupeco set and upgrading it to max for DEF (I have a shit ton of Spheres from farming Rustshards) and adding in an Evasion +5 Talisman to get me Evade+2. The difference is pretty noticeable. I can roll through almost every move he has if I am paying attention. I still have to trap the shit out of him though to break his wings. I also have it gemmed to add Ice Resistance +10. Now it is just a matter of getting his Tusks to drop =(

EDIT: Nevermind... didn't realize that the Quru set has -8 Ice Res naturally, so my 5 Ice Gems aren't going to do shit. I will probably gem it for Mud/Snow or bump the set up to Defense (M).

What exactly do the "Phials" mean on the weapons? The new SA has Paralyze Phial, which I'm guessing is just an additional effect. The other Rough Edge I might get has Dragon Phial.

All switch axes have phials. The meter on the top left is how much energy is left in the phial. Each hit in sword mode adds the phial's damage type, even if the attack is deflected.

Ah, I thought that meter was just a kind of boost to sword's actual damage by itself or something. Now I see how it works.

Thunder weapon is pretty nice. Most mobs still take lightning damage as their 2nd weakness so you don't have to keep on switching weapons for different mobs.

Just fought Barioth. Reminds me of Nargacuga a lot, whom I had down to a T but I died once and abandoned the quest because Cha Cha gets in the way of trying to learn a mob's moves. >_>

I just got this today, got a question. When I bought a x-bow thing I equipped it at the shop. how do I re-equip my old great sword?

Go back to your house, chest in the corner. There is a Manage Equip option there and you will be able to equip whatever you want =)
